Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Lady Victoria Starmer: Their Relationship Timeline
From a blunt phone call to late-night pub dates and Christmas pints, Sir Keir Starmer and Lady Victoria Starmer have built a marriage that thrives on humour, grit, and low-key charm.
While Sir Keir Starmer now occupies one of the most high-profile roles in England, he and his wife have made it their mission to keep their home life grounded. Here's a look at their love story — one sharp comment and takeaway dispute at a time.
How I Met Your Mother
Before they were a couple, they were colleagues — sort of. Victoria was a solicitor, Keir a senior barrister reviewing her work. Their first contact? A sharp phone call in which he grilled her over the accuracy of some legal documents.
"This schedule — is it any good? Is it absolutely accurate?" he barked down the line. Thinking he'd hung up, she turned to a colleague and said, "Who the [expletive] does he think he is?" However, he'd heard every word.

Still, rather than take offence, Keir laughed it off. Years later, he described it as classic Vic, as he affectionately calls her. He shared, laughing:
"You might think, 'Not the best of starts,' but it was absolutely classic Vic. Very sassy, very down to earth, no nonsense from anyone, including from me."
The couple would meet again at a work dinner, and he soon asked her out. Their first date? A pub in Camden Town. According to their son, possibly the least romantic venue imaginable, though Victoria appreciated the gentlemanly touch when Keir walked her to the bus stop.
A few months later, on holiday in Greece, he proposed. "Won’t we need a ring, Keir?" Victoria responded. As it turned out, he hadn't thought that far ahead.
Wedding Bells and Weekend Rows
The couple eventually married in 2007 and have since raised two children whose names Keir has never publicly shared, only referring to his kids as "my boy" and "my girl." He's made it clear — protecting their privacy is non-negotiable.
At home, the pair ran things like most parents. Keir said they shared the housework — "Vic would say she does the majority of it," he admitted — and parenting came with all the usual chaos.
When their son was born, Keir recalled receiving a note through the door that read, "And in that moment, everything changed." For him, that sentiment rang true. He said:
"It's fantastic. It gives me real pride and joy. I love spending time with them."

The family of four has since created wholesome family traditions. For example, Friday evenings are strictly reserved for dinner at home with the kids, and he regularly takes his teenage son to kickboxing classes.
Keir also spoke fondly of being the target of family jokes. "They rib me relentlessly [and] laugh at me, which is great. The moment I walk in the door, I'm Dad, and that's it. The rest has to be left at the door," he shared.

During an interview in 2024, he recalled coming home after being named The Spectator's Politician of the Year in 2022, only for his son to take the award, not even glancing at it, and say, "How did you blag that, then?" before handing it back.
In September 2024, it was reported that Keir and Victoria had paid off the mortgage on their four-bedroom townhouse in Kentish Town, north London.

As for dinner discussions, they were rarely about Westminster. Instead, negotiations were about which takeaway to order, complete with arguments over who got their way last time.
Calm was then restored with an episode of "Friday Night Dinner" — a show that Keir found "pretty formulaic," but one that still brought the family together, laughter and all.
Meet the Real Vic
Victoria now works in occupational health for the NHS, and friends have described her as funny, irreverent, and allergic to fuss. She has consistently refused to take part in press interviews or magazine shoots. As one friend put it, she's "not a show pony."

Still, Labour MP Carolyn Harris, a family friend, said of Keir's wife, "She is a litmus paper. Literally the yin to his yang." Carolyn spent a week each summer with the Starmers in South Wales and said Keir was just as happy in a spit-and-sawdust pub as he was at The Savoy. She added:
"He's up for a laugh and easily amused. Give him what he loves — football and his family — and he's happy."

A Mortgage-Free Milestone
In September 2024, it was reported that Keir and Victoria had paid off the mortgage on their four-bedroom townhouse in Kentish Town, north London. The £2 million property officially became mortgage-free, placing them among the top third of English homeowners with no mortgage or rent payments.
In 2021, they were photographed outside their north London home, clapping during a national tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Documents from the Land Registry showed that the couple had a loan from Barclays Bank, which was discharged in mid-September. The update confirmed that the bank no longer had any claim on the property.
Faith, Family, and Challah Bread
When it comes to religion, Victoria was born in north London, the daughter of Bernard, an Ashkenazi Jew, and Barbara, who had converted to Judaism.
Keir and his family have thus embraced a Jewish way of living, occasionally attending a liberal synagogue and saying kiddush with challah every week — sometimes in person, other times over Zoom.

He revealed that it was important for his children to understand their heritage and stay connected to family in the UK and Israel. However, when asked if that made the kids Jewish, Keir responded:
"No, no, they're not Jewish for reasons I won't bore you with."

The Starmers, Unfiltered
Keir's Instagram occasionally offers a glimpse beyond politics, capturing candid moments with Victoria that reflect their life away from the public stage.
In 2021, they were photographed outside their north London home, clapping during a national tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore. Later that year, the couple was pictured inside The Pineapple Pub, watching England's campaign during Euro 2021.
In a more seasonal moment in 2023, the couple stood arm-in-arm in front of a large Christmas tree, glasses in hand. Keir held a pint, while Victoria toasted with champagne, her hand resting lightly on his chest.
More recently, Victoria and Keir appeared at Wembley Stadium during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. The crowd filled the background as they smiled for the camera. The caption called it a "Swift" campaign pit stop — a rare political break with a pop soundtrack.
From a sharp-tongued phone call to family dinners and kickboxing drop-offs, Keir and Victoria have built a life rooted in balance, humour, and quiet resilience.
