Thomas Markle Sr., the estranged father of Meghan Markle, was rushed to a hospital in the Philippines on December 2, 2025. As the 81-year-old battles for his life, his son has issued an emotional plea for compassion, while his daughter's silence has become the center of critiques that are only growing louder by the hour.

A Medical Emergency Unfolds

According to relatives, Thomas Sr. fell dangerously ill at home on Tuesday, prompting urgent medical intervention. He underwent a three-hour operation on Wednesday, December 3, and was placed in the intensive care unit as doctors prepared to remove a blood clot.

His son, Thomas Markle Jr., who has been his primary caregiver for years, spoke to the Daily Mail about the terrifying ordeal. He revealed, "I took dad to a hospital close to our home and they did various scans and the doctors said his life was in imminent danger."

"They raced us by ambulance, with the sirens going, to a much bigger hospital in the centre of the city," he continued. "My dad has undergone emergency surgery. I would ask everyone around the world to keep him in their thoughts."

But his most urgent plea was directed toward his half sister.

A Declining Condition

Thomas Sr.'s daughter, Samantha Markle, believes the strain of the family conflict has made her father's health even more precarious. Still, she told the Daily Mail that he remained resilient and was praying for his recovery.

The truth is that his health has been fragile for years. He previously suffered two heart attacks in 2018, just before Meghan's wedding, which prevented him from traveling from Los Angeles to London.

His absence is one of the reasons King Charles walked the future duchess down the aisle at St. George's Chapel in Windsor.

Thomas Sr. expressed nothing but gratitude for that moment. He said he would be in debt to the monarch forever for such a "gracious and kind" action.

His challenges have not stopped there. He survived an earthquake, then endured a stroke in 2022 that left him unable to speak temporarily. Therapy restored some of his speech, but his health has continued declining.

Heartbreakingly, he has never met his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten Windsor. With his condition worsening, his son fears he never will. "My only wish is that Meghan shows my father some compassion. He is literally fighting for his life," Thomas Jr. told his plea to the Daily Mail.

Silence, Outrage, and Online Backlash

Despite the unfolding crisis, the Duchess of Sussex has remained silent as of this writing. Instead, she posted a promotional video on Wednesday for "With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration," part of her Netflix series focused on cooking, crafting, gardening, and more with a celebrity guest in each episode.

Her lack of response was instantly noticed online.

"It's all with love from meghan but obviously doesn't apply to her father 😂," one netizen commented. Another wrote bluntly, "And meg could not care less about him."

Someone mused, "Wonder if she will go and see him 🤔," while others insisted she would not, such as a netizen who said, "She won't be bothered about him."

Another accusation expressed, "She'll be to [sic] busy making her jam." One person lamented, "It's sad that strangers care more about him than his own Daughter [sic]!!🤦‍♀️"

Still, some attempted empathy. "It is a family matter nothing to do with any one else, [sic]" one netizen shared. Another added, "I suppose we don't really know what goes on in families. Do we but for me I would love to see my Dad has she even been told [sic]."

But the most direct message came from a single commenter who urged, "Call your dad, Meghan."

A Father's Dying Wish

At the start of the year, Thomas Sr. and his son moved to the Philippines, hoping for peace and distance from the constant reminders of the family fracture. The daily stories surrounding the Duke and Duchess had become too overwhelming.

He has said repeatedly that he does not know why his daughter has not reached out, and his final hope is heartbreakingly simple. "My only wish is to see my grandchildren before I die," he said.

Thomas Sr. separated from Meghan Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, when the duchess was three. They co-parented successfully for years, and Meghan lived with her father from ages 11 to 18, when Doria began traveling internationally.

He also covered her tuition at Northwestern University, approximately $250,000, continuing to pay off the debt even after Meghan was cast in "Suits."
