A flutter of fairy wings and an unexpected dance move were all it took for Boris Johnson to reappear on screens this week, one small window into the private life of a father of nine.

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson recently made headlines after a video of him dancing during his daughter's fourth birthday celebration surfaced. Yet it was not the Peter Pan's Tinkerbell dance routine that had tongues wagging.

In the Instagram video, the father of nine was seen wearing a pair of green fairy wings, perfectly matching the fairy and pixie theme of the party.

The carousel offered a handful of other glimpses into the day: a photo of Boris and Carrie Johnson, and the birthday girl, in a pink outfit with matching fairy wings, gazing out of a window.

Another clip showed Romi jumping into a colour-coordinated ball pit, a similarly themed cake, and a scatter of moments that showed just how much fun the party turned out to be.

In the caption, Carrie explained that they had celebrated Romi’s birthday early and thanked everyone who helped make it happen. She called the whole thing “utter chaos,” adding that Romi enjoyed every minute of it.

Fans enjoyed the party vicariously, with some applauding Boris for being a hands-on dad, "Gents / Dads: That is how you be a father. Be present [sic], step into their world and do the things they want to do. Not the other way around.

Others praised the effort he put into the celebration, "A good father will do anything for his daughter."

There was admiration too for his willingness to dive into the fun, "At least he gets involved, when was the last time you seen [sic] a politician dance like that?" In a different photo showing Boris holding his youngest, the praise continued, "A lovely dad and I'm sure a real softy!"

Another reader highlighted how the moment revealed a different side of him, "Boris the legend, this shows another side to him, the family side, the doating [sic] Dad. Fantastic photo❤️"

And under a Christmas photo from 2022 featuring two of his children, one fan pointed out their resemblance to their father, "He's the father's hair.[sic]"

The comments offered a warm glimpse into his family life, and this celebration was only a peek into one of his children’s milestones, a moment among many for a man who is a father to nine children. Here is a look at Boris’s nine children:

Lara Lettice Johnson-Wheeler, born in 1993, is Boris’s eldest child. Her mother, Marina Wheeler, married Boris the same year while expecting Lara.

She has built a career in writing and editing, contributing to titles such as The Spectator and British Vogue, and later launched her own publication, (un)fold, which explores the links between creativity and mental health.

Milo Arthur was born in 1995, Boris’s eldest son and his second child with Marina. He was educated at Westminster School, later studying at SOAS University of London, and is known for his enthusiasm for sport.

After university, he spent time in Dubai working with Esquire Middle East and, according to his LinkedIn profile, gained fluency in Arabic, Russian, and French.

Cassia Peaches, born in 1997, is the third child of Boris and Marina. She attended Highgate School in North London, where she worked as a student editor on the school’s alumni magazine, Cholmeleian.

She has since gone on to pursue writing herself.

Theodore Apollo was born in 1999 and is the youngest child of the Boris-Marina brood. He went on to study at Cambridge University and, in 2020, was reported to have written a play about Brexit that touched on his father’s role in the UK’s departure from the European Union.

Stephanie, born in 2009, is a half-sibling to Boris’s other children. Her mother is art adviser Helen Macintyre.

Boris was not listed on her birth certificate, and his connection to her became public during a 2013 court case concerning reporting restrictions around her identity.

Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas, the first child of Boris and Carrie, arrived during the Covid pandemic in 2020, and his name reflects several family and personal tributes: Wilfred for Boris’s grandfather, and Nicholas in honour of one of the NHS doctors involved in his treatment while he was in hospital with coronavirus.

Romy Iris Charlotte was born on 9 December 2021. A spokesperson for Boris and Carrie announced the arrival of a healthy baby girl in London, though the couple waited several days before sharing her name.

Carrie later explained on Instagram that Romy was chosen in honour of her aunt, Rosemary; Iris for its meaning of rainbow in Greek; and Charlotte as a tribute to Boris’s late mother.

Frank Alfred Odysseus was born on 5 July 2023, with Carrie announcing his arrival a few days later. In an Instagram post, she joked that the choice of “Odysseus” had been her husband’s idea and spoke warmly about settling into life with a newborn.

She said the older children had greeted their baby brother with real excitement and thanked the NHS maternity team at UCLH for their care.

Poppy Eliza Josephine was born on 21 May 2025, is the fourth child of Boris and Carrie. The couple announced her arrival a few days later, sharing photos of a small family celebration over pizza.

Carrie said the family had quickly fallen for the new baby and that the older children were delighted to have another sibling. She noted that Wilfred was especially enthusiastic about becoming a big brother again, while Romy seemed unaware of how much life was about to change.
