LAPD Questions Person of Interest in Case Involving Rob Reiner and His Wife's Deaths
The questioning comes as authorities continue to investigate the tragic deaths that occurred on Sunday, including the fact that no arrests have been made thus far.
The quiet calm of an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood was shattered Sunday afternoon by a discovery so disturbing it's left a city — and a nation — in stunned silence.
In a heartbreaking development, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. The couple's son, Nick Reiner, is now under questioning by the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division, multiple sources have confirmed.
No Arrests Yet, but Fingers Point Toward the Reiners' Son
Although no arrests have been made and no one is currently in custody, several sources close to the family told People that Nick is responsible for the deaths of his parents. However, authorities have yet to officially confirm this account. According to reports, the bodies of Rob and Michele were discovered by their daughter, Romy, shortly before emergency services were called.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid call at the couple's residence.
Upon arrival, first responders found a man and a woman deceased. While the department has not publicly released their identities, sources have identified the victims as Rob and Michele.
Rob, an acclaimed director, was behind cinematic classics such as "The Princess Bride" (1987), "When Harry Met Sally..." (1989), "Misery" (1990), and "A Few Good Men" (1992). He met Michele during the making of "When Harry Met Sally," where their connection quickly blossomed into romance. After getting married in 1989, Rob and Michele went on to have three children, including Nick.
Nick Reiner's History of Struggles
Nick has previously spoken candidly about his battles with addiction, which began in his teenage years and eventually led to periods of homelessness.
In a 2016 interview with People, he reflected on rebuilding his life, "Now, I've been home for a really long time, and I've sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family."
In a brief but emotional statement shared with Variety, the Reiner family expressed their grief concerning the recent tragedy, "We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time." More details on the story will follow shortly.
