The 60-year-old broadcaster confirmed the incident in a typically candid Instagram post, joking that his New Year was off to "a cracking start" before adding, tongue firmly in cheek, "I blame Donald Trump."

Piers Morgan has been hospitalised following a serious fall that left him in need of surgery and unable to walk unaided. The broadcaster, 60, revealed the extent of his injury via Instagram, sharing a selfie from his hospital bed, oxygen tube in place, and his thumb raised in defiance.

Morgan explained that the accident occurred after he tripped on a small step inside a London hotel restaurant. In typical fashion, he described the moment with brutal humour, stating he "fell like a sack of spuds" and suffered a fractured neck of femur so severe that he required a full hip replacement.

Despite Morgan's humorous framing, reactions online were mixed. Many expressed concern for his well-being and shared personal experiences.

Alongside the candid photo, Morgan also posted an X-ray of the damage, the affected area marked clearly in red. He is now recovering in hospital, facing six weeks on crutches and a 12-week ban on long-haul flights.

Reflecting on the ordeal, he quipped, "New Year off to a cracking start!" before signing off with the tongue-in-cheek conclusion, "I blame Donald Trump."

The remark, while clearly light-hearted, follows a history of Morgan referencing Trump in relation to his health issues. In 2019, after being hospitalised for gastritis and duodenitis, the Brit also joked on social media that the former president was to blame.

At the time, he wrote, "I was diagnosed with stomach gastritis and duodenitis. I blame eating a mouthful of vegan sausage roll, Brexit & Donald Trump."

Despite Morgan's humorous framing, reactions online were mixed. Many expressed concern for his well-being and shared personal experiences.

The programme has featured multiple interviews with Trump, whom Morgan has both praised and criticised.

One commenter, identifying as a healthcare assistant on a trauma ward, offered support and advice, writing, "I work as a health care assistant on a heavy orthopeadic trauma ward in Derbyshire (Neck of Femur ward - NOF) Keep strong, eat lots of protein, keep going with the physio and exercises and you'll get through this [sic]."

Others echoed this practical approach. "My mum's 84. Had him oper6last year [sic]. Just do the exercises, otherwise you will be in a chair. She walks every day," advised one person.

Another sympathised, "I might not like the guy, but I don't find it funny he's been seriously injured. Hip surgery and recovery is brutal. Hope he recovers well."

Several took a lighter approach to the incident, as one person joked, "He shouldn't have boasted to Tom Cruise that he could easily do the stunts for mission impossible [sic]." Another predicted legal consequences, stating, "Am sure he'll sue them!!"

As the public weighed in, many kept their tone positive. "This won't knock you down though! Happens to the best, get well soon," one comment read, while another added bluntly, "Old age it comes to us all [sic]."

Morgan, who rose to prominence in the 1990s as editor of the News of the World and later the Daily Mirror, has since become a staple of British broadcasting. From hosting "Piers Morgan's Life Stories" to fronting "Good Morning Britain," he has remained a prominent — and often polarising — figure.

In more recent years, Morgan launched "Uncensored," a talk show that also airs in a condensed format on Channel 5. The programme has featured multiple interviews with Trump, whom Morgan has both praised and criticised.

While acknowledging the former president's loyalty, Morgan also stated in 2017 that their politics are "too different" for him to ever vote for him, adding:

"I like him. He's been very loyal to me in many different ways, which I have greatly appreciated, and I judge him for how he behaves as a campaigner and now as a president."

Despite his current condition, Morgan has shown no signs of slowing down. In October last year, he even floated the idea of entering politics himself, telling Saga Magazine he would consider running for prime minister and outlining a bold — and controversial — manifesto that included taxing French imports and introducing a one percent levy to fund the NHS.

Whether or not those ambitions take root, Piers Morgan's immediate focus remains on recovery. For now, the broadcaster faces a long road back to full mobility — and perhaps, more opportunities to turn personal setbacks into public punchlines.
