Tamzin Outhwaite, 55, Reveals How She Managed a 'Sagging' and Droopy Face
As the years passed, subtle changes to her appearance began to weigh on her more than she expected. As her story unfolds, a collection of photos spanning her public life sits at the end of the article — offering readers a chance to trace that evolution, frame by frame.
Ageing in the public eye has its pressures, and for Tamzin Outhwaite, the changes she was seeing in the mirror became increasingly hard to ignore.
The former "EastEnders" star has been one of Britain's most recognisable television actresses of the past two decades and has recently spoken quite candidly about turning to non-surgical aesthetic treatments after feeling increasingly disheartened by visible signs of ageing.
Around a year ago, Outhwaite said she began to notice changes in her appearance that she struggled to ignore. Weight loss had exacerbated the issue, leaving her feeling her face looked looser and less defined.
While she was realistic about ageing, she admitted it had started to affect her confidence. "When I looked in the mirror and I just could see that my face just never looked as good as it used to," Outhwaite said.
"At my age, I know it's hard to avoid this. But I'd really started to notice the difference and it was getting me down a bit. I'd also lost some weight and my face looked like it was sagging and dropping [...]," the actress added.
Despite her concerns, Outhwaite was clear about one thing — cosmetic surgery was never an option. As an actor, she was wary of anything that could compromise her expressiveness on screen.
"I definitely didn't want to go under the knife. I didn't want any form of facelift, and I'm extremely wary of having injectables because I need to have an expressive face," she explained. "It's essential for me to have a natural look, not a frozen face."
After researching alternatives and following a recommendation from a friend, Outhwaite decided to try NeoGen nitrogen plasma treatments, a non-invasive procedure designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin.
She was encouraged further after seeing the results achieved by "Strictly Come Dancing" judge Shirley Ballas, who has previously spoken about her own experience with the treatment and, according to the actress, "looks about 10 years younger."
Outhwaite began with a short course of three monthly sessions at a clinic near her north London home. However, the early improvements convinced her to continue, and over the following year she went on to complete eight treatments in total, spending £4,950.
NeoGen works by delivering superheated nitrogen gas to the skin, creating controlled thermal energy that triggers the body's natural healing response.
The process encourages the production of collagen and elastin — proteins associated with firmness, elasticity, and a youthful appearance. Dr McMillan, the aesthetic doctor who carried out Outhwaite's treatments, said NeoGen was particularly suited to her demanding work schedule.
"NeoGen was a good fit for Tamzin because she can't afford downtime," he said. "She would often have filming or auditions within 24 hours of a session, and that's entirely possible with this treatment."
Each session involved the application of numbing cream around 40 minutes beforehand, followed by a 30-minute procedure covering the face, neck, upper chest, and even the delicate eye area. According to Outhwaite, discomfort was minimal.
During the sessions, Dr McMillan focused on areas that concerned her most, including the jawline, fine lines above the top lip, around the eyes, and areas of redness and enlarged pores. Some sections received multiple passes of the device to intensify the skin's repair response.
"After the first three treatments I could really see a major improvement," Outhwaite admitted. "The texture of my skin was better, and where it had looked dull and lifeless before, it was suddenly radiant and more dewy."
The changes did not go unnoticed by those around her. Friends began commenting on her appearance without knowing she had undergone treatment, offering unsolicited praise that reinforced her confidence.
As a result of work commitments that required breaks between sessions, Outhwaite opted for additional treatments. She now plans to maintain the results with top-up sessions every three to four months.
Reflecting on the outcome, she described the transformation as deeply affirming. Her jawline and cheeks appear firmer, pores are smaller, redness has reduced, and her overall complexion is smoother and more even.
"The most striking change is that it's tighter," she said. "My jawline and cheeks were getting a bit saggy before, but they aren't anymore. I'm so happy with the results and so much more confident about my appearance."
Ultimately, the impact also went beyond aesthetics. "I feel younger when I look in the mirror," Outhwaite added. Fans were quick to echo that sentiment online.
One person said, "You look absolutely glowing Tam 🫶." Another commented, "Incredible results 👏👏👏 Tamsin looks amazing… so fresh and glowy😍 Neogen is tried and trusted to give measurable results 🙌 [sic]."
For Outhwaite, the journey has been about embracing modern treatments on her own terms — enhancing, rather than erasing, the face she sees reflected back at her.
