At the height of his fame, he had money, cars, and a hit TV show. But he has since admitted he felt empty — a struggle that later coincided with legal trouble. Today, the former Disney star is focused on rebuilding his life.

Before the mugshot, before the airport arrest, before his name flashed across headlines for all the wrong reasons, there was a quiet, gnawing emptiness he could not shake.

Long before legal trouble made headlines, the former Disney Channel darling was already battling something far more personal — and far more painful. In a past interview, he opened up about slipping onto what he described as a "dark path" in his early 20s, a period that unfolded at the very height of his professional success.

On the surface, he had it all. Fame, financial security, and the glittering Hollywood lifestyle that young stars are told to chase. But beneath the red carpets and flashing cameras, something felt hollow. He admitted that despite checking every box society told him would bring joy, he felt lost.

The Porsche, the House — And the Hollow Feeling

At the time, he owned a Porsche and had purchased a home. These were the milestones he once believed would signal that he had "made it." They were supposed to equal happiness. Instead, he found himself staring at those symbols of success and wondering why they brought him no fulfillment.

That disconnect unsettled him deeply. He began questioning everything — his goals, his identity, his purpose. What followed was a season of confusion and intense self-reflection that would quietly reshape the trajectory of his life.

In one especially vulnerable moment, he turned to his mother and asked her why he was not happy. The question itself marked a turning point. It was the beginning of a deeper search for meaning beyond money and applause.

He began studying various religions and philosophies, searching for answers in ancient texts and spiritual traditions. Eventually, he said, he returned to his Catholic faith — a decision he has since described as transformative.

Searching for Purpose in a Fame-Obsessed World

Today, he speaks openly about prioritizing purpose over popularity. He has said he is determined to live out his faith while continuing to work in the entertainment industry — a balancing act not always welcomed in Hollywood.

Online reactions to his candid interviews have been mixed but passionate. "Wow!" one commenter wrote, seemingly stunned by his honesty. Another added, "He's a great example of Truth!! Look at how he's dressed for the interview! Pure respect! Pure humility! Pure honesty!"

Not all commentary, however, was so reflective. Some viewers focused on nostalgia instead. "He was so hot," one wrote bluntly, pulling the conversation back to his teen heartthrob days. The actor once reflected on what Hollywood was like before the rise of social media — before every lunch outing became potential tabloid fodder.

He described it as a freer time, when young stars could gather without the suffocating weight of online scrutiny. He recalled sitting down for lunch with fellow performers such as Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus, all without worrying about viral photos or trending hashtags. "You could be real," he said.

A Shocking Arrest at LAX

But even as he grappled privately with purpose and faith, public consequences were looming. In September 2018, his internal struggle collided with very real legal trouble. The former Disney Channel star was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport in an incident that stunned fans.

Authorities said he was detained at Terminal 2 after officers discovered a loaded handgun in his possession. The actor is David Henrie, best known to many viewers as Selena Gomez's on-screen brother on "Wizards of Waverly Place." At the time of the arrest, Henrie was 29.

The L.A. City Attorney's Office filed a three-count complaint against him. The charges were serious: carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, and possessing a weapon in a sterile area of the airport. According to airport police, he was carrying a loaded M&P Shield 9mm pistol. He was booked and later released on his own recognizance.

Accountability and Embarrassment

Henrie did not hide from the fallout. He addressed the incident on social media, taking responsibility for what had happened. He explained that he had unintentionally brought his legally owned and registered firearm to the airport.

He apologized for the disruption and thanked law enforcement officers for their professionalism. He also admitted he felt embarrassed by the ordeal — a humbling moment for someone who once stood at the center of a Disney Channel empire.

The case was ultimately resolved through a plea deal. Henrie pleaded no contest to possessing a weapon at the airport. In exchange, two charges — carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed firearm — were dismissed.

He was sentenced to two years of probation and 20 days of community labor. While he did not serve jail time, he was required to complete a gun safety course and pay fines and fees. The legal outcome became part of what he has since described as a broader reckoning — a painful but necessary chapter of accountability.

Marriage, Fatherhood, and a New Chapter

Yet even before his 2018 arrest, Henrie’s personal life had already begun shifting in a new direction. In 2017, he married Maria Cahill, a former Miss Delaware. Speaking to People at the time, Henrie said he felt fortunate to be marrying his best friend.

Cahill, for her part, said she valued his sense of humor and their deep understanding of one another. Together, they began building something far removed from Hollywood chaos — a family. The couple are now parents of three children. In 2022, they welcomed their third child, a daughter.

Henrie announced the birth on social media with a joyful declaration. "It's a girl," he wrote, sharing that the baby was born weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces. He praised his wife for having a drug-free birth and thanked supporters for their prayers. He also expressed gratitude to God for what he described as a gift.

Faith remains a visible thread woven through his public life. In February, he shared a photo of himself and his wife after attending church. In the caption, he reflected on Ash Wednesday and urged followers to fast, pray, give, and go to confession.

He wrote candidly about leading one's family and confronting personal shortcomings — themes that echo his earlier struggle. In interviews, Henrie has said that attitudes toward faith in Hollywood appear to be shifting.

During a conversation with Fox News Digital, he explained that some executives are increasingly open to stories centered on religion. He described a noticeable change compared to a decade ago.

According to Henrie, industry leaders are beginning to acknowledge that audiences of faith are underrepresented on screen and are asking for content that reflects those perspectives. For Henrie, the focus today looks nothing like his early years in entertainment.

Instead of chasing applause, he speaks about purpose. Instead of measuring success by possessions, he points to family. And instead of avoiding his past mistakes, he folds them into a narrative of responsibility and redemption — a journey shaped by private turmoil, public scandal, and a very public return to faith.
