What Happened at Saddle Bar?

Investigators determined that Jones had intervened in a fight involving 25-year-old Daniel Di Vonne Parsons. After Jones broke up the altercation, Parsons retrieved a firearm and shot him.

Parsons was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and aggravated battery. He is currently being held at the Cobb County jail without bond. The Acworth Police Department confirmed the investigation remains active and ongoing.

Remembering a Gentle Giant

For the friends who grew up with Jones, no statistic or roster spot could capture who he really was. Three of his childhood friends and former teammates — Jalen Virgil, Dijon Joseph, and K'Maron Patterson — spoke to FOX 5 Atlanta about the man they loved and lost.

Virgil, who played alongside Jones at Mountain View High School, described the shock of the loss: "It kind of feels like a nightmare that I'm just kind of waiting to wake up from."

Dijon Joseph noted that although Jones was an only child, he never acted like one. "He was a hero. He was a gentle giant. He lit up the room when he walked in. He was a big guy, so you knew if anybody needed help, he was going to be the one to step in," said K'Maron Patterson.

A post from Brett Gilliland was equally devastating: "Jordan Jones came to UWA as a freshman and played his entire college career here. He embodied what we preached in our program and left as a graduate with a championship ring and was voted team captain..."

The Love He Left Behind

Perhaps the most heartbreaking tribute came from Vanessa Thraen, who identified herself as Jones' partner of seven and a half years.

"My heart has been broken into a million pieces. I love you Jordan Alexander Jones. You were the love of my life. A Family Planning Their Goodbye

Jones' family is currently making arrangements for his funeral as friends, teammates, and supporters continue to share tributes.

For many who knew him, the detail they keep returning to is the same one police described — the moment he stepped in to stop a fight.
