He went in for a facial. What was pulled from Vernon Kay’s skin left him visibly stunned — and calling it disgusting.

Vernon Kay, 51, wasn't expecting much more than a bit of pampering when he settled onto the treatment table. But halfway through his aqua facial, what was extracted from his skin and shown back to him changed his reaction entirely.

It began routinely enough. "I'm just about to have a facial because we've analysed my skin," Kay said, lying back. "This is going to be good."

The skin expert explained what was coming. "It's going to be what we call an aqua facial. It's going to suck everything away." Kay had one immediate question. "And will you get to see all the grime?"

Yes, she told him. Every bit of it would be collected in a pod at the end of the session and shown back to him. The look on his face said he wasn't entirely sure that was a promise he wanted kept.

The expert got to work, applying a product she described as feeling like a silk blanket on the skin. She warned him he would feel little balls occurring, which meant his skin was beginning to lift. Then came the suction device, moving steadily across his face.

She noted cheerfully at one point that she hoped he wasn't going to block her machine, before adding, "Already, your skin is starting to look like glowing."

Kay noted that many men are hesitant to try facials, but admitted he found the experience surprisingly relaxing.

By the time the LED treatment began, he had gone completely quiet. The expert eventually had to call out, "Vernon, wakey wakey," to bring him back around.

When it was over, she told him his skin had pulled all the hydration from the treatment into it, which was why it felt the way it did. A mirror was placed in front of him. Kay leaned in, surprised.

"Wow, I'm impressed. Yeah. Oh my God. It's changed colour."

His complexion looked clearer and brighter, visibly different from when he had walked in. But that wasn't what held his attention for long.

"Now do you want to see the fun part?" the expert asked.

She held up a small container. Inside, the liquid wasn't clear. It was cloudy, swirling with dark debris that hadn't been visible on his skin just minutes earlier. "This water should technically be clear," she said.

Kay stared at it, remarking, "Are you serious? Oh my God."

The expert described it as looking "like a little snow globe of your DNA." He didn't look away, instead saying:
