Chrissy Metz, 45, Looks Noticeably Different After Quietly Changing Her Mind About One Treatment — Photos
The actress once resisted weight-loss medication. Now in her 40s, she says it has reduced her "food noise," improved her mobility, and helped her handle eight Broadway shows a week.
After years of diets, weight struggles, and doubts about medication, Chrissy Metz is explaining why she changed her mind as recent photos show a clear difference in her appearance.
The "This Is Us" actress revealed in August 2026 that she is using a GLP-1 treatment after years of questioning whether it was right for her. Her decision followed years of trying other approaches without getting the results she wanted.
"I just wanted to take care of myself," Metz told People in an interview. At 45, Metz said her health concerns had become harder to ignore.
"I'm not getting any younger," she said. "I'm in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father, and I felt like I've tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me."

She did not begin treatment without reservations. "I was like, 'I'm not taking this medication. I don't wanna do this. It's not gonna work for me,'" she recalled. Once she started, her experience was more positive than she had expected.
"It's been great!" Metz said. She said the treatment has helped her move more easily, reduced her joint pain and inflammation, and made it easier to handle the physical demands of performing as Angélique in Broadway's "& Juliet."
Her medical results gave her another reason to continue. She said her blood work has improved, and she is focusing on making choices that support her health. She is also trying not to let the number on the scale define her progress.
"I know it's not a magic wand, and I need to change other things, so I've been working with a trainer, and I'm lifting and putting on muscle," she said. Her goal is to judge progress by how she feels rather than by a fixed number.
"I just want to feel strong and not have my morning ruined because I stepped on a scale and I'm several pounds above what I think I should be," she added.
Metz also expects public criticism to follow whatever choice she makes about her body. "Listen, when it comes to me, everybody is judgy," she said with a laugh.
She said people questioned her before she started treatment and may continue questioning her now. Metz said those opinions do not matter to her now. "They're not in my life. They're not in my doctor's notes. They're not in the hereditary issues my family has," she said.

That is why she sees the decision as hers alone: "My life is my life, and I have to do what's best for me, and that includes not listening to the comments and just talking to people who are positive and kind. I can't engage with something that doesn’t make me feel good."
Metz gave more detail about one of the treatment's biggest effects during a recent appearance on "TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle."
She said she only understood the term "food noise" after noticing how much mental space food had taken up in her day. "You're thinking like what's happening for lunch or whatever, and now it's quiet," she said.
The difference became even clearer while she was traveling with friends. "I went to Italy and like wasn't obsessing about the food, but just like being present with my friends and where we were and I was like, I've never experienced this before," Metz said.
Her concerns about weight started decades earlier. During the interview, Metz confirmed that she was dealing with weight issues by age 9 and was on Weight Watchers at 11.
Her current Broadway schedule has given her another way to compare how she feels now with six months earlier.
"Honestly, I think 6 months ago, I don't know that I'd be running around a Broadway stage eight shows a week if I didn't have the benefits from using the medication," Metz said.
She said the production's fast pace has made her feel more physically capable, while the demands of the show have pushed her harder than previous roles.
"It's the hardest thing I've ever done, but it is the most joy," she said. Her focus on strength began before she publicly confirmed using a GLP-1.
In an April 2025 interview with the Daily Mail, Metz said she had become more consistent with weight lifting and strength training. She described lifting as a form of exercise she had always preferred over running.
Her motivation also included concerns about how her body would change with age. "I want to age the best way that I can, and I want to be strong," Metz said.
At the time, she had not disclosed using a GLP-1 and instead emphasized that medication decisions should remain personal. "I think it's important to like destigmatize anything," she said, adding that people should decide what is right for their own bodies.
The outlet also reported that Metz had previously lost about 100 pounds after gaining more than 100 pounds during a period when she was struggling with depression.
Metz has said that after a panic attack at age 30, she followed a 2,000-calorie daily diet and walked for 20 minutes each day, losing the weight in less than five months.
Her current GLP-1-related loss is a separate figure. Ro, the direct-to-patient digital health company Metz is partnering with, states on its website that she has lost 63 pounds while on GLP-1s.
Metz has also pointed to the practical support she receives through the partnership. "The fact that the medication comes to your door was very exciting for me, and the care team and doctors really check in with you. Like, you know how hard it is to get a doctor on the phone!" she said.
As Metz's weight loss has become more visible, social media users have started comparing her current appearance with older photos.
On a Facebook Reel, one netizen said, "Good for her anything to improve your health is amazing. She looks amazing. She isamazing. Congratulations and continued success [sic]."
Another user shared, "She never even mentioned how it has (or hasn't) affected her weight. I'm glad she has her inflammation under control but wonder if she's also losing weight??" A commenter wrote, "Can't wait to see your end results. You are a beautiful woman."
On a separate Facebook post, one person remarked, "You can see a difference from a few years ago. Slow and steady wins the race."
Another user wrote, "Definitely saw a difference, can you even imagine loosing 100lbs and how good that must feel!!! Not sure how that works these days with the excess skin, but Jelly Roll seems to have lost the weight along with the excess skin [sic]??? 🤔"
A different commenter wrote, "Good for her! That's great." Photos from different points in Metz's career show changes in her appearance over time, including in the recent images that drew comments about her weight loss.
