His versatility across diverse roles is counted as his legacy, but in his personal life, he left behind his young daughter Matilda.

As reported by Shared, the actor had been a doting father to Matilda and had also spoken about his love for her in an interview in 2005.

Ledger shared that his newborn was a keen observer and was a combination of beauty and wisdom.

Gerry Grennell, who was Ledger’s dialect coach and close confidant, shared that the one person the actor constantly thought about in his last days was Matilda.

Grennell revealed that the famous star longed to see his daughter and to play with her.

Matilda is the daughter of Ledger and actress Michelle Williams, whose love story began on the set of the film Brokeback Mountain.

The couple tied the knot and was blessed with baby Matilda in October 2005. Williams and Ledger’s marriage did not survive, and they called it quits in 2007.

However, it is said that the duo continued to be great friends till Ledger’s death. Matilda was 2 years old when her father passed away, and Williams saw to it that the little girl was protected from the paparazzi.

Williams had demanded that the press allow the family to grieve peacefully in private. She shared that she was the mother of a loving, curious and high-spirited toddler, and Williams saw Ledger’s image in her.

In her touching statement, Williams revealed that Matilda would talk to trees, embrace animals and live with a sense of wonder.

A year after Ledger’s death, the actress spoke in another interview about Matilda.

She confessed that though Matilda was the anchor of her life, she could never come to terms with the fact that the little child will never be with her father again.

With the help of a few legislative changes, it became easy for star kids like Matilda to live a normal life without being constantly chased by the media.
