She recently received the Icon Award at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards for achieving the number one album spot in four consecutive decades, about 32 million albums sold in the US, and 40 hits that made it to the Billboard Hot 100 with 10 number 1’s. But all that is overshadowed by the fact that Janet Jackson is foremost a mother now who has realized love at its deepest form after the birth of her 17-month-old son Eissa.

Speaking to Billboard for its cover story this month, the successful singer who’s managed to keep her feet firmly planted on the ground revealed the positive influence she derives from her son. She told the publication,

“My son, even in his short 17 months on the planet, has showed me that love, no matter how deeply you believe you have experienced that emotion, can always go deeper. Love is limitless.”

She also confessed she now feels fortunate to be in charge of someone else’s well-being and not just her own.

“For someone like me, raised in show business where self-concern is always a priority, how fortunate I am now to be concerned, first and foremost, with the welfare of someone else. Day after day and night after night, holding my baby in my arms, I am at peace. I am blessed. I feel bliss. In those moments, all is right with the world.”

Janet shares Eissa with her ex-husband, Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana whom she married in 2012 and cut ties with in 2017.

Despite being a devoted single mother now, Janet also reveals she is able to balance her work life and motherhood because of the motivating DNA she’s equipped with.

“The drive is in my DNA. I couldn’t lose it if I wanted to, and I don’t. Motivation is something I treasure. Besides, for all its difficulties, this is the life I love."

The singer is grateful to her support team which includes her singers, dancers, and musicians she works with as well as her fans who bring her “satisfaction I find nowhere else.” She also confesses she uses “smart psychology, vigorous exercise and sincere spirituality” as defenses against her struggles.

Janet recently became the first African American to be honored with the Billboard Icon Award proving her prowess as an entertainer spanning decades of powerhouse performances. And she’s not about to stop now as she’s set to kick off the second leg of her ‘State of the World’ tour this summer. She’s scheduled to perform in 11 cities beginning with Austin, Texas on July 11.
