'America's Got Talent' judge revealed why Tyra Banks is randomly hosting the show
Tyra Banks is making a big change in her career and it involves 'America's Got Talent'
The new season of America's Got Talent started with a surprise for fans. Tyra Banks, who has been an occasional guest-host on the show, is joining the cast permanently as she revealed in an Instagram post.
The 44-year-old American television personality, actress, model, and singer has taken her career in a new direction and has accepted the invitation to become a host of the hit talent show.
Banks appeared on the show for the first time in May 2017, and now Simon Cowell himself revealed that she will be joining the cast as a host.
Cowell had invited Banks over to his house to discuss the possibility, and within minutes both had agreed that she would be joining 'AGT.'
"We started with no host. Then one of us got a phone call saying Tyra Banks was interested. So I told her, 'Come over to the house tomorrow.'"
Simon Cowell, Closer Weekly, 29th of May 2018.
Banks got her break when the former host, comedian Nick Cannon, left the show abruptly claiming that NBC had threatened to pull his contract over his telling racially-insensitive jokes on his Showtime special, Nick Cannon: Stand Up, Don’t Shoot
Cannon, who had been married to R&B diva Mariah Carey walked out of AGT saying that he would not be "silenced, controlled, or treated like a piece of property."
Cannon stated that he would rather walk away from millions of dollars than from his principles as an artist and as a man.
His decision opened the door for Banks who was facing a hiatus in her career after she left American's Next Top Model and the end of The Tyra Banks Show.
Banks expressed her excitement at this new challenge and especially at the opportunity to work with Cowell and the rest of the AGT team.
