British comedian Russel Brand shared a picture of his 71-year-old mother, Barbara, for the first time on Instagram on Tuesday after she recovered from the near-fatal car crash that took place in April.

Brand thanked the UK's National Health Service for saving his mother's life. In the photo, Brand was seen wearing a grey T-shirt as he rested his left hand on Barbara's shoulder. Barbara was captured smiling and looking at her son.

Brand also posted a long essay on his website titled NHS Saved My Mum - Is it the 'Spirit of Our Country.' Brand wrote that the NHS had a symbolic value to the country. He added that the NHS was also carnal and divine.

The 43-year-old comedian shared that Barbara underwent three critical surgeries and all of them were successful.

He wrote that her experience with the medical facility was an example of the great work done by the public health service for the citizens of the United Kingdom.

Brand considered UK's healthcare system to be the spirit of the country based on his mother's experience recovering from her life-threatening injuries.

He said that even before Barbara lost consciousness, she was able to see the NHS as her allies. SHe was able to communicate without words before the ventilator was put on her.

Brand revered the NHS for being able to understand the cues given by his injured mother and for making sure that she got the best care to survive the accident.

"The NHS is the best of us, it is our shared declaration that love is real. The National Health Service, it does so much and yet it means much more."

Brand said the three operations his mother faced after the car crash were a success, and wrote that her experience was an example of the good work the public health service does for U.K. citizens.

As reported by The Sun, Barbara was sitting in the back of her Audi A8. She was traveling to babysit Brand's 18-month-old daughter Mabel when the crash took place.

Russell told his fans in April that he had to cancel his comedy tour in Aberdeen to be by the side of his mother. Read more about Russell Brand on our Twitter account @amomama_usa.
