NBC's television comedy series star dies at 75
Hugh Dane, the actor mostly-known for playing Hank the security guard in NBC’s The Office, passed away to still unknown causes at 75. Some of the show’s big stars expressed their condolences in social media.
Although the news about the actor’s death was posted on May 26 at the Los Angeles Inner City Cultural Center’s Facebook page, it was only when his former co-stars paid tribute to him on Twitter that the mass media noticed it.
As NME reported, Dane actually passed away on May 16. His memorial service is set for June 9. Instead of sending flowers, his family has asked those who want to pay their respects to make donations in his name to the cultural center.
‘A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend,’ reads the invitation issued by the cultural center for Dane’s memorial service.
It was 52-year-old actor Rainn Wilson, who played the hilarious ‘Dwight’ in the American version of the BBC series of the same name, who brought the sad news to the fans on Twitter, according to Independent.
‘RIP Hugh Dane, aka Hank the security guard. He was one of the greats. So kind, funny, talented. We will all miss him,’ Wilson wrote on June 4. Soon, most of the cast of The Office followed.
The show’s leading star, 55-year-old Steve Carell, retweeted Wilson’s announcement that included a short clip of Dane playing his role in the sitcom adding: ‘What a terrific guy.
38-year-old Mindy Kaling called Dane ‘one of the funniest actors ever,’ and expressed how much she loved working with him
