Another popular American singer murdered in Pittsburgh
The 21-year-old rapper and entertainer, Jimmy Wopo, was shot in killed on Monday during a double drive-by shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Wopo and a friend were found in a car which was parked in the middle of the street. They were rushed to the hospital, where Wopo succumbed to his injuries.
His friend's identity wasn't released but he is in a stable condition. As reported by CNN, their vehicle was struck several times during the drive-by incident.
No arrests have been made as yet, and authorities are still investigating. They've confirmed that Wopo was shot at close range through the window, according to Independent
Wopo rose to fame two years ago with his hit single, Elm Street. Since then, he has worked with other acclaimed rappers, including fellow Pittsburgh-born Wiz Khalifa.
A year before signing a record deal, Wopo created an account on SoundCloud, which led to him being discovered by The Daily Loud, who shared his music.
His YouTube channel also went viral after that and Wopo started to produce music videos for his tracks. His first project, Woponese, followed soon after.
Apart from joining forces with Wiz Khalifa, Wopo was also linked to Hardo, 21 Savage, Riff Raff and ShadyHigler.
In a telephonic interview with The Fader, Wopo credited the Hope Center, a church on Bedford Avenue, for igniting his passion in music.
The church had a studio which they made available to members of the community, and Wopo would record tracks with his friends from the age of 14.
He was steadily gaining a following when he was shot for a second time at the age of 18. He said it was a wake-up call and he realized that he needed to take things seriously.
He also became a father that same year, which helped him to gain perspective on his life. He had a responsibility towards his city and said he couldn't afford to be selfish.
