Meghan Markle gets slammed for wearing floral maxi dress at society wedding
It wasn't a very pleasant weekend for the Duchess of Sussex whose wedding wardrobe was likened to an expensive duvet while she stumbled in her high heels.
Meghan Markle is earning a lot of negative flak for her recent outfit at the wedding of Prince Harry’s cousin.
Joining her husband at the union of Princess Diana’s niece, Celia McCorquodale to George Woodhouse, the Duchess of Sussex opted to wear a floral maxi dress by Oscar De La Renta, the same designer who styled her mother Doria Ragland on her wedding day.
The new princess was in high spirits walking hand in hand with her husband but was slammed by many her for her choice of wardrobe. Some described it as baggy and ill-fitting, while others compared the white and blue frock to a Marks & Spencer duvet and an oversized bath robe. Even her fascinator didn’t escape the prying eyes of trolls who likened it to a bath sponge. Scroll down to see the nasty comments that flooded Twitter this weekend.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry was a dashing date who wore a classic waistcoat and coattails with a blue tie that matched his wife’s dress. At one point he proved to be the Duchess’ anchor when he kept her from stumbling in her high heels. While walking down a grassy slope into the churchyard of the St. Andrew and St. Mary’s Church in Stoke Rochford, Lincolnshire, Meghan struggled with her footwork and almost slid. Luckily, her prince’s hold on her was firm, saving her from an embarrassing fall.
Ill-fitting dress and stumbling incident aside, it was a lovely occasion for the Spencer family with the bride, Celia, glowing in a princess-style dress and wearing the family tiara, the same one Princess Diana wore on her wedding day. The heirloom which has been with the Spencers for more than 90 years was worn by all of Diana’s sisters on their wedding days and is now owned by her brother, Earl Spencer.
Celia is the daughter of Princess Diana’s eldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and the first cousin of Prince Harry and Prince William who, along with his wife Katherine, was not present during the wedding.
