In February 2018, de Rossi surprised DeGeneres with a special gift. She organized The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund, which is a foundation aiming to support global efforts to preserve the world’s most endangered species.
For its first mission, the foundation aimed to build a permanent residence for the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
The couple recently went to Rwanda where they visited Dr. Tara Stoinski, who is the president of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. They also had the chance to spend some time with the gorillas.
In an Instagram post, DeGeneres shared a video of a gorilla and wrote, ‘I can't begin to describe what this experience was like or how much it means to me. I'm so grateful.’
She also said that having the chance to spend some time with the gorillas had changed her life.
In a photo she posted where she can be seen alongside de Rossi, DeGeneres wrote, ‘This was a trip I've been waiting my whole life to make.’
Actress de Rossi knew how special it was for DeGeneres to be able to support such a cause. She surprised DeGeneres on The Ellen Show in February, where the host became emotional.
