Dolly Parton gives private interview as first guest of Reese Witherspoon’s 'Shine On' show

Tuesday was the premiere date for Reese Witherspoon’s interview series Shine On. Her first guest was the legendary country singer and actress Dolly Parton.

The Big Little Lies actress got to visit the icon at her home in Tennessee. There the two had breakfast, spoke about what it meant to be women and checked out Parton’s closet.

Reese Witherspoon, 42, got to meet her idol Dolly Parton, 72, for her new series Shine On. 'I wanna just tell you Dolly, you've inspired me so much. You continue to inspire me, I've always wanted to be more like you,' Witherspoon told the singer.

The actress became emotional as she praised Parton by telling her that she inspired many people with her positivity, warmth, and kindness because it's real. In response, the singer recited some of her lyrics from her song Try.

In 2005, Witherspoon played Carter in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line. The role earned her an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

At one point, Parton gave the host her blessing to portray her when a movie is made about her life. She even joked that Witherspoon would need to get a boob job to play the part.

The host lit up as she told the star that it had always been her dream to play the legend. The two also had fun as they played with Parton’s sequined costumes.

Parton asked the host what she wanted to wear which prompted Witherspoon to take a sequin-covered outfit. However, as soon as she touched it, the appliqués fell off.

The legendary singer let her know that the sequins fell off all the time and that it was ok. Witherspoon joked that she’d always imagined Parton's closet open with sequins flying out.

Parton laughed and said her wish had come true. She revealed that when on stage, the beads would fall off and the staff would need to sweep it up.

Parton shared that they would give them back to be sewn on again and that they called them ‘Dolly Droppings.' Shine On is an unscripted series that looks at women who have made their own success.

Upcoming guests include P!nk, America Ferrera, Kacey Musgraves, and Ava DuVernay. Shine On with Reese premiered on July 17 on DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW and U-Verse via the Hello Sunshine Video On Demand (VOD) channel.
