'Little House on the Prairie' was an all-time favorite, but where are the stars now?

The show became a turning point in many of the cast members’ careers, who went on to pursue different careers in television and films.

The award-winning show Little House On The Prairie was one of the most watched television shows throughout its run from 1974 to 1983.

The show was a famous adaptation of the book series authored by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and apart from bagging three Emmys and several other prestigious awards, it also marked a milestone in careers of its cast members, as reported by CBS News.

Michael Landon:

The actor from Queens is fondly remembered by fans for his performance as Charles Ingalls, the father-figure of the Ingalls family.

After the show, Landon played some critically acclaimed roles like that of an angel in Highway To Heaven and a wrongly convicted man who was released from prison in Us.

He passed away in 1991 from pancreatic cancer.

Karen Grassle:

Grassle played the beloved character of Caroline Ingalls, affectionately known as ‘Ma.’ Prior to the project, Grassle was a known name in the realm of theater, and her stage career continued after the show.

The actress was recognized for her role on Little House and was named in the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, and acted in films like Battered and Harry’s War.

Jason Bateman:

Bateman’s acting career began as a child, and his role as Cooper on Little House turned out to be one of his first big breaks. He went on to star in major blockbusters like Horrible Bosses, Arrested Development and Couples' Retreat.

Melissa Gilbert:

Like Bateman, Gilbert’s career also took off after her role as Laura on the iconic show. Over the years, Gilbert worked on several movies, appeared as a contestant on the popular TV show Dancing With The Stars.

Gilbert has also been the president of the Screen Actors Guild for two full terms. She also contributed to a theatrical adaptation of Little House in 2009, playing the role of ‘Ma.’

Alison Arngrim:

Arngrim’s depiction of the bold and mischievous Nellie Oleson on Little House still remains one of his most remarkable roles till date.

Apart from taking up roles in television and film projects, Arngrim also made her mark as a comedian, and also authored a memoir.

Melissa Sue Anderson:

A young Anderson played the role of the docile and reserved Mary on Little House. The role won her her first Emmy and paved the way for her second Emmy-winning part on Which Mother Is Mine?

Currently residing in Canada with her husband Michael Sloan, she also wrote a memoir of her stint on Little House in a book titled The Way I See It: A Look Back at My Life on Little House.

The actor who played Willis Jackson on the acclaimed film Diff’rent Strokes started off as a young artist making an appearance on Little House as Solomon Henry in the episode ‘The Wisdom of Solomon.’

After the show, he went on to star as a regular on the series Everybody Hates Chris, and continued to pursue his acting career despite his struggle with addiction.

Ernest Borgnine:

The seasoned actor appeared on Little House as the character as a guide and confidant to little Laura in the special episode 'The Lord Is My Shepherd.'

Borgnine’s acting career spanned across 6 decades, and among other accolades, he won the Academy Award for the film Marty, and received an Emmy Nomination in his 90s for his role on ER, shortly before passing away in 2012 at the age of 95.

Merlin Olsen:

Olsen had made a career in pro football before transitioning into acting, and he played the role of farmer Jonathan Garvey on Little House.

After starring in shows like Aaron’s Way and Father Murphy, he retired from acting in 1988. Sadly, Olsen died of complications from malignant pleural mesothelioma in 2010.
