Angela Bassett defies her in age plunging, leopard-print dress in recent pics
Angela Bassett stuns in her latest cover photo where she showcases her amazing body and youthful glow. The ageless actress also opens up about her family, her career, and the secret to her timeless aura.
Angela Bassett is 59 and looks fabulous in her latest cover photo for Net-A-Porter’s digital magazine PorterEdit. The actress admits though that she often doesn’t know how to react when she’s complimented by it.
“I guess it’s a high-class problem to have. But you don't really know what to say when someone says: "Oh, my God, you look so good [for 59]".
Looking striking in a tight-fitting ensemble for the shoot, Angela wore a leopard print dress with a haltered neckline and a cut-out around her cleavage. The actress who attributes her fitness to a rigorous diet showcased her amazing curves as her voluminous do framed her youthful face. Angela glowed as she smiled, revealing an exuberance most likely brought about by her perfect life.
For one thing, she’s been married to actor Courtney B. Vance for 21 years now and part of their relationship’s success is due to the fact that she allows enough room for her husband to be himself.
“Well, he always said divorce is not an option. I’ve always told him: ‘Do what you want to do, because I don’t want you to get to the end and blame anything on me."'
The longtime spouses are also parents to 12-year-old twins Bronwyn and Slater who were born via surrogate after experiencing fertility problems. Of their parenting style, Angela said she and Courtney are different.
“[Courtney’s] got them on a short leash. I try to give them a little bit more leeway. I want them to go out, explore, see how mature they can be about it, how safe, and then come back.”
As an actress, Angela is proud to have been a part of ‘Black Panther’ and the role it plays in reshaping the film industry’s landscape, especially for African American actors.
“Every now and again, something comes along that moves movie culture forward, and Panther definitely sits on that throne. To have a black male superhero, but also to have strong, complicated, vivid, black female characters was special.
"Usually we are just the mothers of, the lovers of… culturally, socially, it just resonates on so many different levels, and I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
The actress, best known for her role as Tina Turner in the biopic ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ is also set to appear alongside Tom Cruise in ‘Mission Impossible – Fallout.’ The actress recounted her disbelief when she got the call to be part of the film.
“I said: ‘What is that?’ I didn’t think it could be the mega-franchise. It was seven in the morning, and I hadn’t had coffee yet. But I’ve also never seen anyone who looked like me in those films.”
Surviving three decades in the industry with the pressure to look good is a feat for Angela whose ageless beauty manages to stand out among women over 50 especially when she dons a swimsuit. Her secret, she reveals is a balanced diet and consistent exercise. The star works out with a trainer four times a week and when she’s on the road, she makes it a point to hit the hotel gym. She also revealed, “Diet is 85 percent of the whole thing for me.” During the shoot, she was snacking on oatmeal with water instead of whole milk and just added a sweetener stashed in her Hermes bag.
With a perfect family life, a thriving career and a healthy lifestyle, it’s no surprise Angela exudes a natural glow in her age. She’s definitely a queen in her own right.
