'Dancing with the Stars' Laurie's freestyle performance is the greatest thing ever

Two years after Laurie Hernandez appeared on "Dancing With The Stars," her freestyle performance with Val Chmerkovskiy remains popular. 

The video is one of DWTS's most-watched performances and shows the pair dancing their hearts out in the joyful playground setting.

It was recorded for the season finale of the 23rd season back in 2016 and set was decorated with playground elements like a slide and see-saw.

They chose Ben Rector's song "Brand New" to accompany their performance and judges commended them for the youthful theme.

The then 16-year-old Hernandez wore a bright yellow dress and danced barefoot around autumn leaves the blew around the stage. 

Fans were equally impressed and said on Twitter that Hernandez and Chmerkovskiy are "the perfect partnership and that they have chemistry together.

Patricia L Brown added: "Laurie, you are so full of energy and life! It's so much fun watching you and Val dance.

The performance received renewed interest with fans being nostalgic while preparing for the upcoming 27th season. 

The professional dances up for this year's Mirror Ball trophy have been announced, and fans will be delighted to learn that Chmerkovskiy returns to the stage.

He will be joined by other DWTS-regulars like Jenna Johnson, Cheryl Burke, Sharna Burgess, Witney Carson and South-African born Keo Motsepe. 

Unfortunately, Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his wife Peta Murgatroyd won't be joining the case of the 27th season.  

The first dancing due was announced earlier this week: Val Chmerkovskiy will be paired with "Facts of Life" star Nancy McKeon.

The hosts have been announced as Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba once more. 

Season 27 of the show will premiere on Monday, September 24, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT on ABC.
