Who is Princess Eugenie?
Princess Eugenie of York was born on March 23, 1990, at The Portland Hospital to Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York. Her grandparents are Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Eugenie is a member of the British royal family and is ninth in the line of succession to the British throne after her elder sister, Princess Beatrice of York. Princess Eugenie is married to Jack Brooksbank, a wine merchant.
Princess Eugenie was the first royal baby to have a public christening and was named after Queen Victoria’s granddaughter and daughter, Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg and Princess Helena respectively. Eugenie’s parents got divorced when she was six years old, and they retained joint custody of both her and her sister.
In October 2002, when Eugenie was 12 years old, she underwent surgery at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in London to correct scoliosis. She made a full recovery and is not expected to undergo further surgery for the condition. Princess Eugenie schooled at Winkfield Montessori from 1992 to 1993. Then, she joined her sister at Upton House School in Windsor until 1995.
Eugenie attended Coworth Park School from 1995 to 2001 and later went to St. George’s School where she stayed until 2003. Princess Eugenie then proceeded to boarding school in Marlborough College in Wiltshire until 2008.
She started studying Art History, English Literature, and Politics at Newcastle University in 2009 and graduated with a second class upper in 2012.
After completing her university education in 2012, Princess Eugenie moved to New York City in 2013 where she worked for the online auction firm, “Paddle8” as a benefit auctions manager for one year.
In 2015, she returned to London to work for Hauser & Wirth Art Gallery as an associate director. Princess Eugenie was promoted to Director in 2017. Princess Eugenie also supports a couple of charities, including Teenage Cancer Trust and Children in Crisis.
According to her Instagram Bio, she is the Founder/CEO of The Anti-Slavery Collective, "an independent collective focused on spotlighting modern slavery as a global epidemic."
Princess Eugenie’s engagement to Jack Brooksbank was announced on January 22, 2018. They met at a ski break in Verbier, Switzerland and had been dating for seven years. On October 12, 2018, Eugenie and Brooksbank tied the knot at St George’s Chapel, in Windsor Castle. Princess Eugenie retains her title after the marriage but has had to drop her territorial designation.
Princess Eugenie does not carry out public duties, but she and her sister represented their father at a service of thanksgiving for their late aunt, Diana, Princess of Wales, in 2007. Also, in January 2013, the princess and her sister represented the Queen at the re-opening of the former Hanoverian royal palace.
Because Princess Eugenie does not have a formal working role within the royal family, she can own a personal social media account. However, she is still learning to balance her royal status and social media presence as she reportedly posted a picture of her father in a private area of the palace on Instagram.
In April 2012, Princess Eugenie agreed to her first patronage as the patron for the Redevelopment Appeal of the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital. She is also the patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust (with her sister), Coronet Theatre, European School of Osteopathy, Tate Young Patrons and the Elephant Family (alongside her mother).
Since 2017, Princess Eugenie has been an ambassador for the Artemis Council of the New Museum which supports female artists. In 2018, she became an ambassador of "Project 0" which partners with Sky Ocean Rescue to prevent plastic pollution. In September of the same year, she traveled to Serbia to visit grantees of the UN Trust Fund which fight against human trafficking and violence against women.
