Openly gay Robin Roberts shares sweet photo with her rarely seen longtime partner
“Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts looks happy and in love in a new pic shared to her Instagram account alongside her longtime girlfriend, Amber Laign. She came out as a lesbian in 2013, after battling a dangerous disease.
Robin Roberts melted hearts as she rested her heard on her girlfriend’s shoulder in a sweet picture shared to her Instagram on Monday. In the pic, Roberts is donning a long-sleeved white t-shirt and a white hat, while Amber wore a black t-shirt. Laign closed her eyes as rested her face on Robin’s head comfortably.
The famous TV host captioned the adorable snap:
“No matter where you were or who you were with this holiday weekend...hope it left you feeling like this...absolutely and totally loved. Bless you sweet Amber and blissful Key West for my #MondayMotivation.”
Fans gushed about the lovely couple on the comment section, and most of them believe Robin is an inspiration for people in the LGTBQ+ community.

COMING OUT
Roberts, who has been working on ABC’s “Good Morning America” for 13 years, has been with Amber for the same amount of time.
She surprised the world on New Year 2013 with a Facebook post where she thanked the most important people in her life for helping her through one of the most challenging years in her life. And among them, it was Laign.
“I am grateful for my entire family, my longtime girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together,” she wrote at the time.
Speaking to Ellen De Generes about her girlfriend, Robin revealed that Amber doesn’t like to be in the spotlight. And that was one of the reasons why she hadn’t gone public with their relationship at the time.
“She's very, very supportive and she's been right there beside me every step of the way, and it was actually the end of the year on my Facebook, and I had been thanking my doctors, my nurses and my sister who was a perfect match. And I said I want to say thank you," she explained of her decision to come out officially.
TOGETHER THROUGH THE DARK
Roberts had been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in 2012 and had to get a bone marrow transplant, with her sister as the donor. She was released from the hospital in October of the same year and returned to GMA in February 2013.
She documented her battle against the disease in a series of TV reports titled “Robin’s Journey,” for which she received a Peabody Award. At the time the Peabody stated that Roberts was being awarded “for recognizing an opportunity rather than focusing on personal danger, and for contributing to the potential for saving thousands of lives” with her up-close report of the disease.
In her book, “Everybody’s Got Something,” Roberts mentions Laign as one of the most important people to help her through her health journey. She said in Ellen that sometimes they didn’t saw eye-to-eye since Amber took the side of the caregivers most of the time.
The couple never hid from their families, and Amber’s mother told Daily Mail a few years ago “We are very, very happy for them. Her dad and I and the whole family are very happy and totally supportive.”
Amber is a massage therapist and the co-founder of the holistic brand Plant Juice Oils.
