President Trump's final tweet to former adviser Flynn before his sentencing for lying to the FBI
President Donald Trump wished his former advisor Michael Flynn "Good luck."
Retired United States Army Lieutenant General Michael Flynn is the second member of President Donald Trumps's coterie to be charged and convicted in connection to the Special Counsel investigation into the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
As Flynn prepared to face the Judge's sentence after he pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I, President Trump posted a message to the General on Twitter on December 18, 2018.
"Good luck today in court to General Michael Flynn."
President Donald Trump, Twitter, December 18, 2018.
PRESIDENT WISHES THE GENERAL "GOOD LUCK"
The President wished his former National Security Advisor "Good luck," and declared that he is interested to see what Flynn would have to say.
He stated his belief that Flynn would stand his ground, and declared that there was no collusion with the Russian government with regards to the 2016 election:
"Will be interesting to see what he has to say despite tremendous pressure being put on him, about Russian Collusion in our great and, obviously, highly successful political campaign. There was no Collusion!"
Judge Sullivan characterized Flynn's work as an unregistered foreign agent and lobbying on behalf of the Turkish government as "selling out" his country.
JUDGE DELAYS FLYNN'S SENTENCING
But the President's good luck wishes were premature. U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan agreed to delay Flynn's sentencing pending the former General's continuing collaboration with the investigation headed by Robert Mueller, which will now continue into 2019.
JUDGE'S HARSH STATEMENT REGARDING FLYNN
Sullivan described Flynn's actions in lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials in the aftermath of the 2016 campaign as "disgusting," and expressed the opinion that he should be charged with treason.
JUDGES ACCUSES FLYNN OF "SELLING OUT" HIS COUNTRY
Judge Sullivan characterized Flynn's work as an unregistered foreign agent and lobbying on behalf of the Turkish government as "selling out" his country.
On the request of both the prosecution and defense counsel, Sullivan allowed the postponement of the sentencing:
"If you want to postpone this, and come back at some later point...that's fine with me."
Sullivan warned Flynn that no amount of cooperation would guarantee that he would not serve a prison sentence for his crimes.

MICHAEL COHEN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IN A FEDERAL PRISON
Like Michael Flynn, Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to the Special Counsel investigation headed by Robert Mueller and has been sentenced to 3 years in federal prison by Judge William Pauley on December 12, 2018.
Cohen also pleaded guilty to eight counts of campaign finance violations, tax fraud, and bank fraud.
President Trump's former lawyer admitted to paying off porn-star Stormy Daniels on the eve of the 2016 election, and told Judge Pauley that his former boss had led him to "follow a path of darkness rather than light".
Cohen was also charged a $ 2 million fine for his misdeeds. His other convictions for tax evasion and bank fraud charges concerned his private finances and are unrelated to his work for the president.
