Simmons took to Instagram a few days ago with a video of herself and Sutton Joseph- called SJ- practicing with flashcards.

The little man pronounced the words perfectly after his mom while smiling at the camera. “Very good,” Simmons encouraged.

In the post caption, the “Growing Up Hip Hop” star revealed that she had been worried about her son’s speech development.

“For a while, my little one was taking his sweet time talking. It worried me,” she confessed. “I did everything I could to assure his speech.”

Simmons continued, also letting slip quite an impressive fact about SJ:

“And he has come a long way. I do flash cards with him every day. Super proud of his growth. He is bilingual. So he knows Spanish as well. So I couldn’t be prouder of how he is developing.”

Instagram users turned up in their numbers in the comments section, fawning over the toddler’s ability and assuring Simmons that she’s doing an excellent job as a mom.

“Great job!” one social media user wrote. “He’s so big and smart and handsome.”

“He is amazing, and his speech is just right. [You’re] doing an excellent job with him,” said another.

Simmons, 31, welcomed her son in September 2016 with her late ex-fiancé, Sutton Tennyson. Tennyson, 37, was found lifeless inside an open garage at his Atlanta home on November 3, 2018.

According to reports, Tennyson was engaged in a heated argument with another man who eventually shot him several times before speeding off in a car.

Even though they were not together at the time, Tennyson’s death was a massive blow for Simmons. The daughter of Run-DMC’s Rev. Run broke her silence on the tragedy with a series of heartbreaking photos and videos.

“Thank you for leaving behind my greatest gift. I’m hurting. I’m numb,” she wrote alongside a photo of the late Tennyson holding their son.

Simmons added:

“Thank you for the out pouring of love everyone. I can’t believe I’m even saying Rest In Peace Sutton. I promise to hold SJ down in every way I promise.”

Tennyson was laid to rest at the Elizabeth Baptist Church in Atlanta on November 10, 2018. Simmons was accompanied to the funeral by her brother, JoJo Simmons.

Meanwhile, JoJo has been stepping up a lot with SJ and playing the role of a father figure in the little man’s life.
