Reba Mcentire's Son Is All Grown up and He's Chosen a Rather Dangerous Career Path
Another celebrity child shuns showbiz to pursue a more dangerous career. Reba McEntire's grown up son did not follow in his mother’s career path.
Reba McEntire is the queen of country music and a member of the “Country Music Hall of Fame.” The country star was married to Narvel Blackstock and had a son from the marriage, Shelby Blackstock.
Shelby inherited his mother’s charming smile and sunny personality, but when it came to following her career path, he veered off it, preferring the danger and adrenaline that comes with racing cars.
The young man ditched school after he fell in love with racing. This happened when he visited the Bob Bondurant Driving School in Arizona while in the university.
After leaving school, the 29-year-old started his racing career and competed actively. He has competed in different competitions like the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the Skip Barber National Championship in 2011, coming fifth, and the United States Formula 2000 National Championship.
Shelby also finished third in the Pro Mazda Championship in 2013 and came fourth in Road America. In 2015, he joined the Andretti Autosport in the Indy Series and had been racing with them.
The Tennessee native has three siblings from his father’s side of the family, Chassidy, Shawna, and Brandon who is married to country music artist, Kelly Clarkson. He is close to his siblings but shares a closer bond with his mother.
McEntire and her son are each other’s number one fan. He goes with her to award shows, and she goes to the tracks to watch him race. When the singer got her induction, he was there with his siblings to support her.
On his Instagram page, Shelby has a lot of pictures in his racing outfit, but he also has pictures of his mother and his girlfriend, Melissa Branch. The racer, his mother, and girlfriend have a close relationship, and he constantly posts pictures of the trio on Instagram and does a good job juggling between being a son and a devoted boyfriend.
McEntire also juggles a lot as an actress, producer, and businesswoman. The 63-year-old started getting paid for singing at age four and got a break when she caught the attention of Red Steagall at the National Final Rodeo in 1974.
The “Does He Love You” singer achieved number one single 35 times, and sold over fifty-six million albums. The country queen also hit number one in four consecutive decades. Shelby may not be an award-winning singer like his mother, but she is proud of his achievements.
