Meghan Markle's Dad Reacts to Birth of Royal Grandson
Thomas Markle spoke about his pride at the birth of his new grandchild hours after the royal baby's arrival was announced by the palace on Monday.
Meghan Markle's estranged father is unrelenting as he continues to publicly address his relationship with his daughter. The grand affair of his grandson's birth is no different.
The 74-year-old former lighting director spoke to the Sun about the newest addition to his family, whom he fears he might never get a chance to meet or bond with. The baby is his sixth grandchild.
He said:
"I'm delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well. I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor."
The brief statement continued:
“God bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry — and God save the Queen.”
Thomas and Meghan have reportedly not conversed since the latter wed Prince Harry in May 2018. Around that time, Thomas staged paparazzi pictures of himself in hopes of improving his reputation. He then missed the wedding due to heart problems.
In August, Thomas reportedly received a letter from Meghan in which she described how her father broke her heart "into a million pieces." Since then, Thomas has been making public appeals for his daughter to accept him back into her life.
According to the Sun, Thomas further sent out a more personal message to Meghan her husband. "Congratulations," it began, "I'm very happy for you both and I hope this baby will bring you all the joy in the world."
He indirectly implored her by saying, "All newborn babies bring entire families happiness and joy - they can even bring broken families back together again."
He added:
"Hopefully this baby will help mend the family rift. We'd all love to meet the baby and become a part of his life, especially my dad. I'm hoping that becoming a mother will open up her eyes and shed light on what family means."
Thomas and his ex-wife Doria Ragland divorced when Meghan was just six years old. A young Meghan lived with her father as a teenager until college. He was reportedly active in her life and they shared a close bond until the events of last year.
While Thomas received news of the birth along with the rest of the world, new grandmother Ragland was reportedly by her daughter's side throughout the delivery. The Royal Palace said she was "overjoyed" about the new arrival.
Ragland is expected to stay with Meghan and Harry at their Frogmore Cottage in Windsor for a while following the bath. Thereafter, she will regularly be visiting her daughter and grandson in London.
The official announcement from the Sussex royal Instagram account shared the news on Monday with a simple navy-colored photo and the text "It's a boy!" at the center.
The caption read:
"We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz."
The baby and its mother are said to both be doing well and the public is still awaiting the name of the new royal child. Prince Harry spoke to reporters after the birth and was "over the moon." Congratulations to the new parents as they focus on the little one.
