Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan Markle, 37, recently declared their first child’s name on their Instagram account, only a few days after his birth. The post included a photo of Markle presenting her son to the Queen at St. George’s Hall at Windsor Castle.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” read the post.

BEHIND THE NAME

Although it is uncertain as to why “Archie” was chosen, royal sources believe that the duke and duchess simply grew fond of the name, signifying their independence from tradition. Additionally, the name is German in origin and means “genuine,” “bold,” and “brave.”

Harrison literally means “son of Harry” and was most likely chosen as a tribute to his father. The royal couple also decided not to give their son a royal title, indicating their desire for their child to be a ‘private citizen,’ hence Archie will be known as a ‘Master.’

Baby Archie made his debut on Wednesday at St. George’s Hall in Windsor Castle where he was cradled in Harry’s arms along with Markle by their side, both beaming with happiness.

Harry once confessed that he “wanted out” of the royal family, and would have enjoyed being Captain Wales in the Army, instead of a prince.

ARCHIE’S AROUND THE WORLD

Archie, although not having British royal connotations, was the 18th most popular name for boys in England and Wales in 2017, and 34th in America.

Among those who share the same name are Archie Panjabi from “The Good Wife,” Archie Andrews from “Archie” comics, and “Archie Mitchell” from the BBC soap “EastEnders.” Furthermore, Prince George disclosed that his nickname is also Archie after speaking to a dog walker this year.
