Angela Bassett Awarded Honorary Doctorate from Morehouse College

Everyone may now call Angela Bassett "Doctor," as she received her Honorary Doctorate Degree from Morehouse College this week.

With graduation season around the corner, more and more stars have been receiving their Honorary Doctorate Degrees from different colleges. Now, it's Angela Bassett's turn to receive hers from Morehouse College in Atlanta. Along with the other graduates, she was honored for her leadership, excellence, and service, that definitely "set the bar high" for Hollywood women.

The "Black Panther" star gave the commencement address to the class of 2019, and she quoted Morehouse alumnus Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in his speech, asking people to emulate him while forging their own paths in life.

“I want you to proudly walk in your own shoes and you know what it’s like when you get a new pair of shoes? I want you to be uncomfortable, I want you to be mindful, I want you to be wary.”

A Day to Remember

Angela revealed that her "heart is full" after receiving her doctorate, saying she was blessed and highly favored. She adds that she is proud of her fellow Morehouse College graduates, who are mostly black, as Morehouse College is a school dominated by black excellence.

However, it's not just graduation that occurred that day, as Billionaire philanthropist, Robert F. Smith, announced during the keynote address of the commencement ceremony that he and his family are creating a grant to eliminate student loan debts of the set of graduates, something that brought people to tears.

Hollywood Doctorates

More and more personalities from Hollywood are becoming doctors this year, thanks to their efforts being acknowledged by schools and universities around the country. Aside from Dr. Angela Bassett, Dr. Regina Hall was presented with an Honorary Doctorate from Dillard University. This adds to her list of academic accomplishments, which include graduating with a diploma in BA English from Fordham University, and a Masters in Journalism from New York University.

Likewise, Missy Elliott was also provided with an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music, being recognized for being a pillar in the music industry, having won 10 Grammy Awards among many others.

Other stars that were awarded include Justin Timberlake and Broadway Orchestrator, Alex Lacamoire.
