NeNe Leakes' Husband Gregg Shares Pic before 'Final Surgery' after Beating Cancer
NeNe Leakes’s husband, Gregg Leakes, went into surgery for the last time on Monday after successfully beating cancer mid-May. The news came just a few days after NeNe made a cryptic post that left fans speculating about her exit from “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
Gregg Leakes has been honest and open about his battle against stage 3 colon cancer ever since he was diagnosed in June 2018.
“I’m tired of hurting my wife who is only trying to take good care of me and wants only the best for me too. She deserves much more for her hard efforts and tireless hours spent on me..."
Through ups and downs, the reality star and businessman had wife NeNe Leakes by his side, and now he’s finally free from the disease.
CANCER FREE AT LAST
A few weeks ago, Gregg and NeNe took to Instagram to share the good news, explaining that after months of chemotherapy, a PET scan showed there is no cancer left in Gregg’s body.
“Won’t He do it. Thank you, Jesus, & Praise God,” Gregg captioned a photo of himself holding a sign that read “No Cancer Found! Praise God…” And added:
“Thank you ALL for your Prayers for me, and please continue to Pray during my journey. I thank my wife @neneleakes for being there for me. Sometimes it wasn’t easy..”
On Monday, Gregg took to Instagram one more time to share one last update on his health journey. He shared a selfie taken at a hospital bed, as he geared up to go into the surgery room to get his port removed.
According to the National Cancer Institute, a “port-a-cath” is a device “placed under the skin in the right side of the chest. It is attached to a catheter that is threaded into a large vein above the right side of the heart called the superior vena cava.
A port is used to give intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and other drugs.
“Going into Final Surgery. Happy Day having my port removed... Thank you Jesus for watching over me. Thank you, World for your Prayers and Well Wishes... Leggo...” Leakes wrote on the post.
FANS’ REACTIONS
Fans of the Leakes family were quick to fill his comment section with well-wishes and prayers.
“Praying for your healing and swift recovery,” wrote one user.
And another took the chance to thank Gregg for being such an inspiration to other cancer patients, saying:
“I can’t wait until mine is removed as well! Thank you for being a strong inspiration for your fight. Gives me strength and hope to make it to the end of this fight as well!”
NeNe also left a comment that read: “The last piece of the puzzle! WE ARE DONE HUNNI! Sooooo happy for you.”
NENE’S CRYPTIC POST
A few days earlier, the reality star posted a cryptic Instagram pic in which she’s on the backseat of a car, sticking her tongue out through the window and throwing a peace sign. She captioned it:
“Say what now? Nawwww Happiness over everything #byeforever#putsomerespekonmyname.”
Fans were quick to start speculating about the hidden meaning of the post. Some pointed out that she might be ready to leave Bravo’s reality show “Real Housewives of Atlanta” after having so many fights with the rest of the cast this season.
Others pointed out NeNe might be gearing up to get a divorce from Gregg.
BATTLING CANCER AND OTHER ISSUES
The speculation came from comments Leakes made a few months ago on Twitter, where she accused Gregg of being “mean, grouchy and evil” to her while battling cancer.
She also mentioned the possibility of getting a divorce during an “RHOA” episode; and on the show’s final reunion, the couple confessed they were still at odds, sleeping in different rooms and seeing a counselor.
“I can’t tell you anything that I’m going to do,” NeNe told Andy Cohen. “I feel like I have been pushed up against a wall, and I’m coming out as ‘no.’ … Anything is possible; we just have to see.”
Earlier this year, Gregg publicly apologized to NeNe for the way he treated her.
“I’m tired of hurting my wife who is only trying to take good care of me and wants only the best for me too. She deserves much more for her hard efforts and tireless hours spent on me,” he wrote alongside a picture of NeNe. “I pray to God to get it together… she’s done NO wrong… this is ALL on me. Cancer will change your life.”
