Sunny Hostin Blasts Catholic Bishop for Anti-LGBTQ Tweet during Pride Month
Catholic television host Sunny Hostin reminds a Catholic Bishop that it's "safer" to attend Pride Month activities than in a church. The host of "The View" was responding to the bishop's previous tweet against the LGBTQ community.
Sunny Hostin slammed a Catholic Bishop for his unfavorable tweet against the LGBTQ community.
"I know Jesus would be attending that PRIDE parade … with pride.”
BISHOP SLAMS LGBTQ
Hostin had quite a mouthful to say against Bishop Thomas Tobin in her talk show, “The View” on Monday. She reacted to Tobin’s previous comment discouraging Catholics from attending gay pride activities. In his tweet, Tobin wrote,
“A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ “Pride Month” events held in June. They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children.”
HOSTIN RETALIATES
A Catholic herself, Hostin took offense and slammed the bishop for judging the gay community, something Jesus would never do she said.
“I tweeted out my Catholic children will be attending pride events as this Catholic will. My faith always taught me what would Jesus do. I know Jesus would be attending that PRIDE parade … with pride.”
"...being at a PRIDE parade would be much safer for a child than it has been to be in a Catholic church for many years.”
Hostin also reminded Tobin to look at his own backyard before casting moral judgment on others.
“For a Catholic bishop to come out and say something like that given the history of pedophilia in the Catholic church, given what the Catholic church has hidden about the abuse of children, some would say that being at a PRIDE parade would be much safer for a child than it has been to be in a Catholic church for many years.”
GOLDBERG APPROVES
Hostin’s passionate speech earned cheers from the audience as well as a few rings from co-host Whoopi Goldberg’s bell. She explained she was speaking as a Catholic who almost denounced her religion because of previous scandals associated with it.
Meanwhile, Goldberg expressed her support for the gay community by encouraging everyone to “be proud of who you are” because “God does not make mistakes.”
SHOW CHILLS IN CO-HOSTS' ABSENCE
Hostin’s controversial speech more than made up for the absence of two of her co-hosts, Meghan McCain and Joy Behar who called in sick that day. Fans even suggested the show was a lot more “chill” because McCain was not on the set.
The former senator’s daughter was rumored to be difficult both on and off camera. Goldberg is reportedly at her breaking point with her co-host but is trying her best not to break. After Monday’s show, she reportedly told producers she could get used to the atmosphere that day not needing to specify what she actually meant.
