Joseph and Kendra Duggar Share Adorable Photos of Baby Son Garrett to Mark His Very 1st Birthday
Joseph and Kendra Duggar celebrated their son's birthday by sharing a sweet picture of the tot digging into his meal.
A black and white photo of a smiling Garrett was all it took to melt the hearts of fans of Joseph and Kendra and their adorable firstborn son. Thankfully, the elated couple shared three of them.
"Happy 1st birthday Garrett," they wrote in the caption of the picture. "I can't believe one year ago that you entered the world. You have brought so much joy just seeing you explore all of the firsts in life!" The post is found below.
It continued:
"You love to explore with your little fingers, little hands and little feet. We love you so much. We know you will be such a good big brother to our new addition this November!"
The first photo featured baby Garrett in a hand-to-mouth picture that showed his birthday cake on the desk in front of him. In the next, he had his mouth wide open, showing the world two tiny front teeth.
Again, one hand was covered in pieces of his cake. The final photo showed him giving a toothy grin to the camera as he squinted his eyes. The child's birthday was on June 8.
Just weeks before sharing the joy of Garrett's first birthday, the couple caught flack when they shared a picture of their son in a blue onesie. He was playing with a twig outside.
The caption read:
"He's such a boy [heart emoji] some of his favorite toys are found outside That little twig entertained him for longer than his toys normally do!"
According to the Cheat Sheet, users were quick to tell off the Duggars for describing their son as "such a boy" because it re-enforced what they considered unnecessary gender stereotypes.
Some fans chimed in and defended the couple's words and beliefs. The Duggar family are very strict when it comes to their faith and practice, they also stick to more traditional teachings about men and women.
As reality stars, The "Counting On" couple can expect opinions and backlash for every event in their life. Soon, they will be welcoming another new addition to their family and fans can't wait.
The couple announced they were expecting back in April via a video announcement on their family website. "We are ready to double the fun at our house!" they said in the clip.
Kendra described her reaction as going from that of shock to excitement, to disbelief, and then to excitement again. "It's just so many emotions. We're so thrilled," 20-year-old Kendra said.
Sadly, some bad news also came from the Duggar family recently. Grandma Mary Duggar passed away on June 9 due to an accidental drowning incident.
The family paid tribute via a touching Facebook post where they described Mary as a "follower of Christ, a wife, a devoted mother, a loving mother-in-law, and a much-loved grandmother."
Mary was Jim Bob Duggar's mother. He headed the family when they made their television debut on "17 Kids & Counting" in 2008. Mary was 78 years old when she died. Our condolences go out to the Duggar family.
