Halle Berry Honors Late Dad Jerome Jesse on Father's Day (photo)
Halle Berry opened up about a sensitive topic in her life, particularly her dad who has never been seen with or even acknowledged by the actress in public.
Right in time for Father's Day, Halle Berry shared about her father, his struggles with addiction, and how important he is to her.
"On this Father’s Day my heart is full, full of love for my DADDY!"
Honoring her estranged dad
The "Catwoman" actress barely opens up about her late dad to the public, so her Father's Day tribute came as a shock to many of her fans. In her tribute, she decided to talk about forgiveness, which she posted with a photo of her dad, Jerome Jesse Berry, whom she did not grow up with. He and Halle were estranged since she was four years old as that was when her parents divorced.
Berry revealed that she actually only has two photos of her dad, and it's become a priceless piece for her. While she claims she never grew up with him because his addiction to alcohol hindered them to have a fruitful relationship, she says she now understands how much he loved her.
“On this Father’s Day my heart is full, full of love for my DADDY! This is one of only 2 pictures I have of him, and it has become family gold! While I didn’t have much of a relationship with him while he was here, as he was alcohol addicted and that addiction robbed us of the relationship we were meant to have, I now understand how much he loved me and how vital he was and is to my life!”
A Special Father's Day
She adds that on a special day made for dads, she is especially missing her own. Berry inserted to greet her own baby daddies a happy father's day as well.
“I miss you today daddy and wherever you are, I know you’re smiling down on me because I feel your love. #HappyFathersDay to the great dads in my life—Olive and Gabe and to EVERY dad out there!”
On Being a Parent
Now that the "John Wick" actress has children of her own, she makes sure to protect her children from any form of abuse or harassment by keeping their lives as private as possible.
In fact, she says that she doesn't regret having her kids past the age of forty, as this has made her even more ready for motherhood.
Halle Berry welcomed her daughter Nahla, 11, and son Maceo, 5 when she was over 40, and she said that while people think this is not a good thing, she believes otherwise. As for why this is the case, she says:
“You know yourself better. You’ve done a lot of things for yourself, selfishly. When you wait later in life, you can really put your kids forward I think in a more meaningful way.”
