Whoopi Goldberg Defends Joe Biden on ‘The View’

Joe Biden is currently involved in a segregationist controversy and also under fire by some Democrats. He, however, has a strong supporter in Whoopi Goldberg, who defended him in the last episode of ABC’s television talk show.

Joe Biden recently found himself in the middle of a backlash from Democratic opposition who labeled him a racist. Their accusation stemmed from the fact that he collaborated with segregationist politicians such as Strom Thurmond.

However, on the latest episode of “The View,” he received strong backing from the show’s co-hosts, most notably Whoopi Goldberg, who gave reasons as to why he couldn’t be tagged a racist.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG DEFENDED JOE BIDEN

The episode began with Whoopi Goldberg playing a video clip which featured Joe Biden, Cory Booker, and Kamala Harris, two of his opponents in the Democratic Primaries. The video had one part in which Joe Biden vehemently stated that he did not have a “racist bone” in his body.

After the video, moderator, Whoopi Goldberg launched into a wholehearted defense of the former Vice President. She explained that it was natural that people would work with other persons they may not like.

She then asked Biden’s opponents to beat him in a debate and not call him a racist. She used another example to back her claim that he wasn’t a racist; she cited his eight years of being Barack Obama’s vice.

She then jokingly asked if Joe Biden had a noose in the background for those eight years. The audience was in full applause at that point.

THE OTHER CO-HOSTS ALSO DEFENDED JOE BIDEN

Whoopi Goldberg wasn’t alone in defence of the presidential aspirant, as her co-hosts also joined in defending him. Ana Navarro accused Cory Brooker of using the situation to get attention to himself, while Sunny Hostin believed the former Vice President isn’t a racist, though he has racial blind spots.

She further said she would never call him a racist as she believed there was a true racist in the White House. Meghan McCain also made her contribution to the discussion after the break.

In stating her opinion, she lashed out at Democrats for always attacking one another and also said that no one should have his or her history of public service held against them.

BIDEN REFUSES TO APOLOGISE

Joe Biden’s comments about his working relationship with segregationist senators brought forth outrage from his counterparts and led to Cory Booker asking him to apologize immediately.

However, in true Biden fashion, the Democrat frontrunner said he wasn’t going to apologize, but that instead, Cory should apologize. It is left to see what effect this latest topic would have on his candidacy.
