NeNe Leakes Hits Back at RHOA Suspension Rumors after Closet Meltdown
NeNe Leakes is shutting down rumors that she was suspended from season 12 of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” after her infamous closet meltdown at the end of last season. The reality star is also setting the record straight on other issues regarding her position on the show.
Season 11 of the Bravo series ended on a tense note in May after NeNe ripped a cameraman’s shirt during an altercation involving her fellow housewives, but she’s assuring fans that the incident does not affect her future on RHOA.
PEOPLE reported that NeNe, 51, was on the Majic Radio Show recently when she said:
“I have never been suspended, and I am on Season 12. Thank you very much.”
According to Page Six, a rep for NeNe confirmed that she was delayed in starting filming on the upcoming season because of contract negotiations but insisted that there is no drama behind the scenes.
'If I tell you to visit me and sit right here, you need to sit right here. You don’t have the right to go through my house'
PEOPLE also reported that she took the opportunity to slam rumors of a spinoff in the works. “No, that’s not true,” NeNe told host Vic Jagger who had asked if she was going to be in a spinoff. “If I’ve gotten a spinoff, they haven’t told me yet, and I need them to tell me.”
“I haven’t filmed a thing,” she added. “I read that, too. If I had a spinoff, I’d be happily telling you.”
NeNe shocked fans last season on the show after she went off on her colleagues during a visit to her house. NeNe threw a “Bye Wig” party but noted that she didn’t want anyone going into her closet.
Fellow Housewives Kandi Burruss and a then-pregnant Porsha Williams chose to go in anyway, sparking a meltdown from NeNe who chased after them and ripped the shirt of a cameraman who had followed Burruss and Williams.
During a reunion episode, Williams said that the cameraman was “choked up” and had to go to the hospital. Burruss also added that the man’s tooth got knocked out.
NeNe has refused to admit that she overreacted, however, telling Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live”
“How are you going to overreact in your own home? If I tell you to visit me and sit right here, you need to sit right here. You don’t have the right to go through my house to open my doors, my closets, my pantries, none of that.”
“You saw me have a breakdown,” NeNe reportedly added at the reunion. “I don’t have to be sorry for having a breakdown.”
