'House' & 'CSI' Star Sela Ward Shares Pic of Mom Annie Kate Who Died from Ovarian Cancer
Sela Ward honored her late mother, who passed away from ovarian cancer, in a heartwarming post on social media.
The pain of losing a loved one never fully heals regardless of how long ago the incident happened, and Sela Ward's recent post proves that.
In a rare snap shared on Instagram last week, "CSI" star Sela Ward shared a lovely photo of her mother in celebration of ovarian cancer awareness month.
The actress uploaded a sweet photo of her younger self, hugging her mother. In the caption of the heartwarming post, the 63-year-old explained that her mum died from ovarian cancer.
She wrote:
“It’s #OvarianCancerAwarenessMonth. My mother battled this horrible disease until 2002. A woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer every 23 minutes."
Sela went on to mention the statistics of women affected by ovarian cancer, before urging people to pay attention to early symptoms.
"I know that more needs to be done to spread awareness of this disease that will take the lives of more than 14,000 women this year. Learning the early symptoms can help, she added."
Internet users flooded Sela's comments section, thanking her for her advice and expressing their sympathies.
As revealed by PEOPLE, Sela's received the news of her mother's failing health while filming "Once and Again" in 2002. Her sister called her to deliver the bad news, and in n time the actress flew home to Meridian.
When she got to her mother's side, she realized that things were beyond repair as her lungs were failing and advised everyone to say their goodbyes.
Four days after, Sela Ward returned to work, and she revealed that leaving her mom was one of the hardest decisions of her life. She recalled:
"Leaving my mother was one of the most painful things I've ever had to do. I took her face in my hands, savored her sweet smell, and told her, "I'll be back, Mama. I promise."
Luckily, she was able to return to her mum's side and was with her until her demise.
