Garth Brooks, 57, can celebrate for the seventh time as the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards' Entertainer of the Year recipient after Wednesday night.

The big occasion was hosted by Carrie Underwood, who was also a nominee for the award. Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire also joined her in hosting the event for the 12th time.

Other nominees in the category included Keith Urban, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton. During his speech, Brooks praised McEntire and also mentioned Kelsea Ballerini and Luke Combs.

He said:

"I always try to call it like I see it, if they gave this award for this show tonight I’d have to give it to Reba McEntire’s performance. Kelsea Ballerini, if you want to know what an entertainer is, take a guitar, and just a single voice in the middle of an arena and shrink a room."

He called Ballerini's performance "fantastic." Then, he assured Combs that his name was on the award in the future adding, "hoss, I can tell you that."

Brooks further praised the crowd, his band, and crew. He ended with sweet words to wife Trisha Yearwood: "I love you, Trisha Yearwood."

Brooks' last win for Entertainer of the Year was back in 2017. He has collected the award more times than any other artist in the country music genre.

Last year, it was Keith Urban who took home the Entertainer of the Year award. The singer got emotional as he accepted the honor from presenter Lionel Richie. Wife Nicole Kidman was also teary-eyed as she hugged him.

In a touching speech, Urban thanked Kidman, his two daughters, and said that he wished his dad were alive to see him. He added: "I am very grateful that I get to do what I do."

Years ago, though, Brooks caused a stir when he refused to accept the award for Artist of the Year at the AMAs. It was in 1996 when Brooks dramatically left the award on the podium and walked offstage.

The singer said he doesn't agree with the choice before leaving the stage empty-handed. Later, he explained that he felt others were more deserving of the title. Well, Brooks definitely deserved his award last night. Congrats to him.
