Colin Firth From 'Pride and Prejudice' and Wife Livia Reportedly Split 2 Years After Her Affair
Colin Firth and his wife have called it quits two years after the latter had an affair with an Italian journalist.
Although Colin Firth and his wife Livia did their best to ensure their marriage worked out, media outlets have shared that the duo realized that it was time to move on.
According to PEOPLE, the couple disclosed that they were splitting after 22 years of marriage. A representative of the duo stated that despite the split, Colin and Livia "maintain a close friendship and remain united in their love for their children."
"Before the scandal with Marco broke out, Colin has been open about his marital troubles despite maintaining that he and his wife loved each other dearly."
The site also mentioned that their close friends weren't surprised by the news as it came after the drama that engulfed the couple's lives.
Back in 2018, the super-private couple confessed that 50-year-old Livia had an extramarital relationship with Italian journalist Marco Brancaccia. The affair occurred between 2015 and 2016 when Livia and her 59-year-old husband were separated.
PEOPLE added that Livia and Marco were together for 11 months, but after they ended their relationship, Livia accused her lover of stalking her.
Along with Colin, the 50-year-old sued Marco in an Italian court for carrying out a "campaign of harassment." However, the Italian journalist denied the accusations, and the case was settled out of court in July 2018.
Before the settlement, Marco was officially charged with stalking after authorities found "abusive messages and emails" on his phone during the investigation, per a PEOPLE report.
Meanwhile, Mirror divulged that before the scandal with Marco broke out, Colin has been open about his marital troubles despite maintaining that he and his wife loved each other dearly.
Colin first gained fame when he appeared in the 1983 stage play "Another Country," where he played the role of gay high-schooler Guy Bennett.
According to Factinate, the play got adapted into a movie in 1984, and his role in it got him noticed thus playing a significant part in his career.
Besides dominating the screens, Colin also had a healthy relationship life as he dated his "Valmont" costar, Meg Tilly, from 1989 to 1994, per a Ranker report.
Colin and Meg welcomed their son, William Joseph "Will" Firth, in 1990, but by 1994, Colin stated dating "Pride and Prejudice" costar, Jennifer Ehle.
In 1996, Colin and Livia began dating and got married on June 21, 1997. They share two sons – Luca and Mateo.
