Sy’rai Iman Smith, Brandy’s 18-year-old daughter is a pleasant reminder of how beautiful and talented her mother is.

The young woman clearly inherited her mother’s facial features as evident in photos they frequently grace together. In fact, Essence wrote a feature on how much they looked alike. It’s like seeing double.

More importantly, Sy’rai shares her mother’s voice. Back in 2012 Brandy revealed to People how much Sy’rai loves to sing. She could see her daughter was inclined to music but she was hoping to keep her focused on her education and her childhood

It’s unclear how Sy’rai’s father, Robert Smith figures in his daughter’s life. In 2004, Robert made headlines when after he and Brandy split, he denied ever marrying her at the time she announced her pregnancy.

Now that Sy’rai’s an adult, Brandy has been flaunting her talent to the world. In February, she shared a clip of the teen singing and fans were impressed by her incredible voice. She was equally impressive when she performed at a school play months earlier.

To match her singing voice, Sy’rai proves she’s also a model for body confidence. Last year, she made waves when she used her social media to empower others.

Describing herself as “bigger than most kids,” she encouraged her followers to see beauty beyond their bodies and to change for themselves and not for others.

“There can be a beautiful person in a beautiful body, but in the inside, they can be so ugly…If you really want to change, change because you really want to change, don’t change because other people are saying oh you’re a big girl or you’re fat.”

Brandy was so proud of her daughter she reposted the video and revealed she was “crying and speechless” watching it. It must be quite the affirmation for the singer to know that she raised a brave and strong woman.

ABOUT HER FATHER

It’s unclear how Sy’rai’s father, Robert Smith figures in his daughter’s life. In 2004, Robert made headlines when after he and Brandy split, he denied ever marrying her at the time she announced her pregnancy. The producer revealed they pretended to be secretly married to protect Brandy’s image.

It was also disclosed that Robert was dating someone else when he got Brandy pregnant. Following his split from Brandy, he reunited with that woman and they had a child.

Brandy was disappointed by Robert’s revelations to the press but she didn’t deny his claims. She was, however, concerned about how it affected their daughter having their dirty laundry aired in public.
