BRAVELY SHARING HER PAST
Gaga was Oprah’s first guest for her nine-stop “2020 Vision: Your Life in Focus” tour which kicked off in Sunrise, Florida. During their interview, Gaga unloaded the painful memories of her past and revealed how she coped.
“You were so amazing,” Oprah says as she embraces a tearful Gaga. “You were so vulnerable, you were so truthful, you were so real.”
As a teen, Gaga was raped repeatedly and was forced to go into seclusion without proper help. She struggled with her secret until she pushed herself to move past the trauma and ride the waves of fame when she was in her 20’s.

Gaga admitted she feared she was going to die because she didn’t get the proper treatment and medication she needed. She eventually went on a psychotic breakdown.
The 39-year-old later credits her life to the cocktail of anti-depressants that kept her afloat and the psychiatric experts who eventually helped her. She enumerates her medications with caution, alerting fans that she was in no way recommending them because every case is different. She also denied taking narcotics or pain killers.
LIVING WITH A HIGHER PURPOSE
In hindsight, Gaga believes everything happened for a reason. That she was meant to experience that kind of pain in order to help others.
"Now, when I see someone in pain I can’t look away. I’m in pain too. Now, I’m in problem-solving mode. I’ve got my suit on and my heels and I’m ready to go,” she said.
A SURGE OF EMOTIONS BACKSTAGE
Oprah was grateful to Gaga for sharing her story when they met backstage after the interview. The media mogul shared a clip where her voice cracks and she breaks down in tears as she hugs Gaga in thanks.
“You were so amazing,” Oprah says as she embraces a tearful Gaga. “You were so vulnerable, you were so truthful, you were so real.”
Oprah adds that she was impressed by Gaga’s bravery to share her truth in front of thousands of people (fifteen thousand according to CBS) who watched their live interview.
OPRAH'S OWN PAINFUL HISTORY
A victim of sexual abuse herself when she was young, it’s no surprise that Oprah had a soft spot for Gaga’s story. In 2012, she admitted that she was physically beaten as a child, raped when she was only 9, sexually abused between the ages of 10 to 14, got pregnant and delivered a child that died.
In spite of her troubled past, Oprah managed to find strength to overcome the trials and be a bigger person. Something she and Gaga could very well relate to.
