Gladys Knight looked exquisite in a recent picture shared by her husband, William McDowell. The globally-acclaimed Empress of Soul, who is an unrepentant believer in love, could not help smiling beside her fourth hubby.

Knight is undoubtedly one of the unforgettable artists across many generations, but besides her phenomenal singing talent, the Atlanta-born entertainer is also a pleasant sight to behold.

A few days ago, McDowell took to Instagram with a photo of himself and Knight at an event. The "Midnight Train to Georgia" singer looked lovely in a plunging red dress that offered a view of her cleavage.

The singer reportedly revealed in her 1997 memoir that Brown's infidelity and their busy careers spelled doom for the marriage

Knight accessorized with a strand of pearls around her neck and matching drop earrings. Her hair was styled in a curly up-do that framed her face, but the singer's most captivating accessory was her bright smile.

McDowell also looked dapper, sitting beside his wife in a black suit and gold tie while sporting a pair of sunglasses. "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door," he wrote, opting for a motivational caption to go with the post.

Not much is known about McDowell's life, but he is known for being Knight's fourth husband in what has been her longest-surviving marriage to date. Per Globe Intel, the couple was married on April 12, 2001.

MARRIAGE HISTORY

Knight's first marriage was in 1960 when she was only 16 years old. As noted by Smooth Radio, she got pregnant for and married musician James "Jimmy" Newman in 1960. The singer had a miscarriage but would go on to have two kids with Jimmy.

Sadly, Jimmy reportedly became a drug addict and deserted the family when Knight was 20. Per Heavy.com, the former "Pips" leading lady retired from touring to raise their kids, son James "Jimmy" III and daughter Kenya.

A MOTHER'S TRAGEDY

Knight officially divorced Jimmy in 1973, seven years after their separation. Not long after their divorce, Jimmy passed away. Unfortunately, in 1999, Knight would also lose her first son, Jimmy III, at the young age of 37, per ILOSM.

In 1974, Knight married her second husband, producer Barry Hankerson, who was reportedly an uncle to the late singer Aaliyah. Knight and Hankerson share a son named Shanga, but the couple parted ways five years later.

FINDING HER HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER

In 1995, Knight married her third husband, motivational speaker Les Brown, but the marriage only lasted two years. The singer reportedly revealed in her 1997 memoir that Brown's infidelity and their busy careers spelled doom for the marriage right from the start.

Knight eventually married McDowell in 2001, and the two have been going strong ever since. McDowell has always been a supportive husband, walking side-by-side with the singer at virtually every event, including her 75th birthday celebration in October last year.

Never one to give up on love, Knight once told SF Gate: "Love is what makes the world go around. I know it’s a big cliché to use, but it is the absolute truth."

"There is nothing else like it. I know that is what everybody is striving to feel, in relationships, in brother- and sisterhood and in all of the things that we aspire to have in our lives," Knight added.
