ROBIN ROBERTS SHARES SAD NEWS
On January 9, Robin posted a statement on Instagram, revealing that she had left GMA early that morning in order to fly to California to be by the side of her partner of 14 years, Amber.
Robin explained that she would be spending the next week in California to support Amber. She wrote:
"We’ll have a celebration of her father’s life. (Amber) She’s doing well and once again thanks you for all your prayers and well wishes following her father’s passing."
Amber's father's death is a harsh blow to the couple since he had been a strong supporter of their relationship from the beginning. Robin had only revealed the nature of her relationship with Amber to the public in 2013, but their families had known from the beginning.
Andrea Laign, Amber's mother, had spoken out publicly and revealed that Robin and her daughter had the entire family's unconditional love and support and that she and her husband were very happy for them.
Amber is a massage therapist, and stays out of the limelight, although she does accompany Robin on red carpet occasions.
The lovely blond met the show host and sportscaster on a blind date in 2005 and stood by her side throughout her fight against breast cancer and bone marrow disease.
Robin was named by the Equality Forum as one of the 31 Icons of the 2015 LGBT History Month and was picked by Disney as one of the mentors and role models for the #DreamBigPrincess campaign.
