Céline Dion Sings 'Somewhere over the Rainbow' during 'Courage World Tour' in Tribute to Mom Who Recently Died

Last week, it was revealed that singer Céline Dion had lost her mother Thérèse Tanguay-Dion. During the musician’s concert, the star sang a special song to pay tribute to her mother.

On Friday, January 17, 2020, Dion was performing at her “Courage World Tour” concert in Miami, Florida. The artist took a moment to honor her late mother.

The singer took to the stage wearing a white gown for her performance. Dion, 51, sang a moving rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to pay tribute to Tanguay-Dion.

Dion’s mother confirmed dead

According to eyewitnesses, after the performance, Dion received a five-minute plus standing ovation. The songstress’s management confirmed her mother’s death by releasing a statement that read:

"It is with deep sadness that Feeling Productions announces the death of Mrs. Thérèse Tanguay Dion. Mrs. Dion died peacefully at home last night, surrounded by her family. The family and loved ones thank you in advance for respecting their privacy during these difficult times. Details related to the funeral will be communicated later."

Singer mourns mother’s death

In Canada, Tanguay-Dion was known as "Maman Dion." She died late on Thursday after months of battling serious health issues.

Ahead of her Friday performance, the “My Heart Will Go On" musician took to her Instagram where she wrote in English and French:

“Maman, we love you so much… We dedicate tonight’s show to you and I’ll sing to you with all my heart. Love, Céline xx…”

Losing her father in 2003

The songstress included a black and white family picture. Tanguay-Dion was a television host, a philanthropist, and a mother of 14 children.

She was 92 when she passed away while surrounded by family. Her husband and Dion's father, Adhémar Dion, died at the age of 80 in 2003.

Dion honors late husband

The singer experienced another death in 2016 when she lost her husband and father of their three boys, René Angélil, at age 73. Sadly for Dion, two days before her mother’s death she had taken to social media to honor Angélil’s four year anniversary since he passed on.

The musician’s husband died after having a long battle with throat cancer. The couple had been married for 21 years.
