Martha Stewart and Daughter Alexis Had a Rocky Relationship but They Reportedly Got Closer after She Went to Prison
Martha Stewart had a tumultuous relationship with her daughter Alexis, whom she had with her ex-husband, Andrew. However, according to press reports, they got closer during Martha's time in jail.
In her 2011 book "Whateverland: Learning to Live Here," Alexis claimed that her famous mother, Martha, strived for TV perfection yet was not an ideal parent, as reported by ABC News.
"If I didn't do something perfectly, I had to do it again," she wrote. "I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head."

However, that all changed in 2004 when Martha was charged with four counts of obstructing justice and making false statements to federal investigators.
Their relationship reportedly got warmer after Martha's time in a Virginia federal prison. Following her discharge from prison in 2005, Martha launched a highly publicized comeback.
The acclaimed television personality came back to daytime television with "The Martha Stewart Show" and showed up in an adapted version of "The Apprentice."

When "The Apprentice," debuted in September 2005, Martha was joined by her daughter Alexis and chairman of the board, Charles Koppelman, in the conference room, as reported by PEOPLE.
In a statement, Martha said, "Alexis and Charles are a dynamic duo with me in the conference room. No one knows me better than Alexis and she understands my way of conducting business and dealing with people."
In 1997, Alexis tied the knot with lawyer John Robert Cuti. However, their marriage was unsuccessful, and it led to divorce in 2004.

Martha, who has written numerous bestselling books, added that Charles brings the expertise of a legendary entrepreneur to the conference room every week.
In addition to "The Apprentice," Alexis also hosted the show "Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer," according to The List. Alexis was also the co-host of "Whatever with Alexis and Jennifer" on Sirius Satellite Radio.
In 1997, Alexis tied the knot with lawyer John Robert Cuti. However, their marriage was unsuccessful, and it led to divorce in 2004.
Cuti served as a trial lawyer during Martha's ImClone stock trading case, along with her lead attorney Robert Morvillo.
In 2007, Alexis appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to talk about her struggle to conceive a child. She now has two children, daughter Jude and son Truman, via surrogate as a single mother.
Last year, Alexis listed her triplex apartment in New York's West Village for $53 million, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
