Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s 8-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter won the 2019 Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the Soul Train Awards.

Ivy is just 8, and seems to be on her way to a career in music that might one day rival mom and dad.

"Brown Skin Girl," which also featured Blue Ivy's vocals, was released on July 23, 2019, and peaked the charts at #32 on the Rolling Stone Top 100

BLUE IVY - SONGWRITER

Blue Ivy may be just 8, but she is already a veteran of the red carpets which she has been treading alongside music industry icons, Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z.

Being Beyoncé and Jay-Z's daughter means she has been living and breathing music since the day she was born, and now she has started writing music herself.

THE LION KING

Beyoncé took the role of Nala in the long-awaited remake of Disney's hit animation movie, "The Lion King." While making "The Lion King," Beyoncé was inspired to create a new album, which she calls her ode to Africa - The Gift.

One of the biggest hits off that album is "Brown Skin Girl," a song composed in collaboration with Guyanese singer Saint Jhn, Nigerian singer Wizkid, and Blue Ivy Carter.

AWARD-WINNING SONG

"Brown Skin Girl" won the Award, making Blue Ivy Carter one of the youngest recipients of the Ashford & Simpson honor ever, alongside her proud mom Beyoncé, Saint Jhn, and Wizkid. But this is not Blue Ivy's first effort at songwriting.

In 2013, when Blue Ivy was just a year old, Beyoncé released her album, "Beyoncé," featuring the song "Blue" inspired by her infant daughter. Beyoncé credited Blue Ivy as a contributing songwriter and vocalist.

BLUE IVY NOT AT THE AWARDS

The Carters were not present at the Awards, and no comment has been issued in Blue Ivy's name, but we can only surmise that she is thrilled. For an 8-year-old, who is currently in second grade, it is quite an achievement.

Blue Ivy Carter has not publicly commented on winning her first award, and her parents weren't at the ceremony. Blue has more pressing matters to attend to, like studying for second grade.

THE APPLE OF BEYONCÉ'S EYE

The protective Carters rarely post photos of their children on social media, so fans have to rely on the occasional indiscretion on the part of the grandparents, Matthew Knowles and Tina Lawson to get a glimpse of the little Carters.

Beyoncé has revealed in interviews that her daughter changed her, her perception of the world, and that of herself as a woman and a human being. The pop star gave birth to Blue Ivy on January 7, 2012, at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

The successful pregnancy followed on the heels of a miscarriage in 2010, which Beyoncé revealed left her heartbroken.

After Blue Ivy's birth, in 2014, an altercation between Beyoncé's sister Solange and Jay-Z sparked rumors that he had been unfaithful. In 2016, Beyoncé's album "Lemonade," confirmed the rumors.

But by 2017, it seemed that the Carters had overcome their difficulties, and they welcomed twins Rumi and Sir, now 2. It will be interesting to see if Sir and Rumi are precocious musicians like their big sister, Blue Ivy!
