ACKNOWLEDGING THE FAULTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
Tyler Perry acknowledged the faults in the American criminal justice system, which is why he decided to call on Dr. Michael Baden to perform a second autopsy on his nephew. Of the news, he previously said:
"Three days ago, I got horrible news that he allegedly committed suicide in prison. I say allegedly because, unfortunately, our criminal justice system and prisons have been notorious for cover-ups and/or getting it wrong. With that in mind, I have hired Dr. Michael Baden to do a second autopshy, and we are expecting the results soon."
CONFIRMING THAT THERE WAS NO FOUL PLAY INVOLVED
Soon after, Perry announced that he got the results from Dr. Baden, which confirmed that there was indeed no foul play in his death. While it doesn't take away the family's grief, it provides a lot more room for them to mourn peacefully knowing this.
Gavin Porter, 26, was in solitary confinement when he hung himself with a bedsheet that led to his death. He was placed in solitary confinement after he got into a fight with another inmate over the weekend. On Tuesday at around 6 PM, guards checked on him and everything was normal. However, at around 8 PM, he was already found dead.
PUTTING THE FAMILY AT PEACE
At first, when prison guards told Gavin's family that there was no foul play involved, they were not convinced and believed something else must have led to his death. Ultimately, the autopsy that Tyler Perry confirmed the guards' statements.
Rest In Peace, Gavin Porter.
