On Tuesday, March 17, 2020, “The View” announced that co-host, Whoopi Goldberg, had chosen to not be present on the day’s episode to get checked out by her doctor amid the coronavirus outbreak.

A few days before Goldberg, 64, took the day off from “The View,” her co-host, Joy Behar, 70, revealed that she was taking time off from the show. Her decision was based on the worldwide pandemic of the coronavirus.

She explained that she would be gone for at least a week amid the pandemic. Scientists have revealed that elderly people have a heightened risk to the virus.

During Tuesday’s show, Sunny Hostin sat in Goldberg’s moderator seat and shared that her colleague was taking a day to visit her doctor “Just to be extra careful” as the virus spreads. Last year, the actress and television host battled pneumonia.

Hostin explained further saying: “She wants everyone to know she feels fine.” According to the co-host, Goldberg had every intention to be back in her seat the following day.

On the show, Dr. Mehmet Oz was a guest co-host and he praised both Goldberg and Behar for taking precautions. He commended the two women saying they were “doing the right thing.”

During “The View’s” episode last Thursday, the “Sister Act” star came to the studio wearing a black top hat. She explained, at the time, that she wore the accessory in order to add some as people face the coronavirus-related news cycle.

The comedienne joked that her intention was to “make everybody smile.” On January 29, 2020, during the show's episode things weren’t so cheery when Golberg got into an argument with co-host, Meghan McCain.

The “Ghost” actress later explained that such disagreements were bound to happen as they would if one was with family members. At the time, Goldberg had instructed her colleague to “stop talking” during a heated discussion.

Missing the show due to pneumonia

Early last year, the Academy Award-winner missed five weeks of the ABC talk show because of pneumonia. Viewers didn’t see the star since February 6.
