Val Kilmer Was Reportedly Glad to Have Cher by His Side after Throat Cancer Diagnosis in 2015
Val Kilmer battled throat cancer in recent years, but he was not alone. Former partner Cher, was there to help. He writes how he felt about it in his new memoir.
Actor Val Kilmer, 60, is sharing his story with fans in a new memoir titled "I'm Your Huckleberry." The legendary Cher is one of the main characters during a crucial time in his journey.
In his book, Kilmer recalled a particular incident in which he feared for his life but, somehow, ended up laughing because of the singer. Who's to say that didn't help him through.

Cher and Kilmer dated during the early 1980s. The two remained on good terms because, over three decades later, Cher invited him to stay in her guest house.
It was sometime after 2015, the year Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer. Kilmer went over to Cher's. One night while there, he ended up facing his mortality.

"I suddenly awoke vomiting blood that covered the bed like a scene out of 'The Godfather," Kilmer reportedly wrote in his book. He revealed that he prayed before calling 911.
Humor at a fearful time
That's when Cher came in. The paramedics also arrived, and one of them was incredibly handsome. Kilmer noticed how his hostess was gazing at the beautiful health worker.
Soon, the celebrities' eyes met, and Kilmer raised his eyebrows to show he knew. Cher acted shy at first, but then she laughed at the situation. In his book, Kilmer pointed out the irony of it all.

"Here we were, joking about beauty and desire [...] while my life seemed to be in mortal danger," he wrote. Eventually, he was cut off from his fit of laughter with an oxygen mask.
He hasn't let it slow him down
Kilmer ended up beating cancer. In four years, he hasn't had any reoccurrence of the disease. His treatment? A tracheotomy, chemotherapy, radiation, and, he says, his Christan faith.
In addition to having a good friend around, Kilmer was motivated to fight by the threat of his career ending due to impeded speech. He doesn't have to worry about that now.
