The Cambridges shared a heartwarming post on their official Twitter page, Kensington Royal, with side-by-side photos of themselves with Prince Philip as they wrote:
“Wishing a very happy 99th Birthday to His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh!”
As seen in the photos shared, the Duke of Edinburgh shares a close bond with his grandson and granddaughter-in-law.
Prince Philip’s milestone age of 99 makes him the third longest-living British Royal. Topping the list is Princess Alice, the Duchess of Gloucester, who lived to 102 years.
HELLO! Magazine confirms this as it was reported that Prince Philip is particularly close to William and Harry. He took them under his wings when their mother, Princess Diana, passed away.
He not only mentored them in their military career but shared his love for the polo sport with them. Prince William often fondly remembers his childhood with his grandfather and never fails to describe him as a “legend” when speaking about him.
He also publicly praises his grandparents’ marriage, calling them “the most lovely couple.” The Daily Mail notes that Prince Philip’s son, Prince Charles, joined in the tributes sharing a series of images of him and his dad, including a throwback that showed them on a motorboat ride.
Last, but definitely not least, was a shout-out from the Queen via the royal family’s Instagram page, who released a touching, never-before-seen photo of the Queen and her husband of almost 73 years.
The lovebirds were seen standing side-by-side in the quadrangle at Windsor Castle in the photograph that was taken last week.
The Queen looked delectable in a grey and yellow flowery dress by Angela Kelly and accessorized with the Cullinan V diamond brooch and a pearl necklace.
Prince Philip, on the other, hand looked sharper in a navy blazer and bright grey trouser alongside a Household Division tie. The couple has been spending time at the castle in isolation amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
